The Municipal Agriculture and Fisheries Council (MAFC) and Municipal Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (MFARMC) meeting was conducted on May 15, 2026 at the ABC Hall. The activity was facilitated by the Municipal Agriculture Office staff together with the MAFC and FARMC Chairmen (representative). Attendees included chairmen and presidents of different cooperatives and associations, barangay kagawads serving as committee chairmen on agriculture, and the 4H Club President. The meeting discussed important agenda such as FFEDIS, Sagip Saka, Farmers Market schedules, Bagsakan Center, updates on different banner programs in agriculture and updates on various LGU agricultural programs and projects.

𝗦𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁 𝗦𝗣𝗖 𝗝𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻. 𝗛𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗶𝗱 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗳𝗮𝗿 𝗶𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲.

Darizel C. Vidad of Banna, Ilocos Norte started with a college feasibility study and a cousin who was getting sick from soft drinks. She developed SPC Juice, a sweet potato and calamansi drink, from a 2-day shelf life product to one lasting 2 months at room temperature, built a calamansi farm, earned FDA-eLTO approval, and represented Region 1 at the National Young Farmers Challenge Season 5 in April 2026.

Through the Young Farmers Challenge Program, she received a total of PhP 530,000 in grants across three stages: PhP 80,000 at the provincial level, PhP 150,000 at the regional level, and PhP 300,000 through the Regional Upscale Grant. She is not sharing this to brag. She is sharing it so the next young farmer from Northern Luzon knows what is possible if they join.

Her cousin was one of the first people to try the product. He believed in it. He did not live to see the national stage. She kept going anyway, through the door-to-door days under the Ilocos heat, through the shelf life problem that almost stopped everything, through the loss of her cousin, her grandfather, and another close cousin in the span of two years.

"Instead of giving up, these experiences motivated me to work even harder because I know our product can still help many people."

𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝘀 𝗦𝘄𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗣𝗼𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗼-𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶 𝗷𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲

For 24-year-old Darizel Cargado Vidad, starting a business was a practical response to a family health concern. By combining sweet potatoes with calamansi, she has developed "SPC Juice," a local drink aimed at providing a more nutritious option than common sugary beverages.

The project began during Darizel’s feasibility studies, where she focused on the health of her cousin, who had a heart disease.

“During my study, he was my main focus because I noticed his feet would swell whenever he drank soda,” Darizel shared. “I thought, if we can make chips out of sweet potatoes, why not innovate a healthy drink for him? ”

This innovation led her to the Young Farmers Challenge (YFC) Program, where the potential of her product earned her Php150,000 in grants at the provincial and regional levels.

While the grant provided a foundation, the initial phase of the business required careful financial management. Darizel chose to prioritize long-term standards over immediate volume.

“The grant wasn't enough to cover everything because I focused on the facility first. It was small, but I made sure it met FDA standards for cleanliness and safety,” she explained.

This decision stretched her finances thin, leading to delivery shortages and the need for a startup loan.

To keep the business moving, Darizel took out a loan to cover operating expenses. Through consistent management, she was able to repay the full amount within five months.

Currently, SPC Juice has expanded its reach beyond Banna, securing space in local stores and larger outlets like Robinsons. Darizel is now focusing on the next steps for her enterprise, having established a steady delivery schedule in Ilocos Norte.

“My goal is to eventually export the product,” Darizel said. “I know there are many steps ahead and the risk of failure is always there, but I am ready to take that risk. If I don't try, I won't move forward. I want to see what can be achieved.”

Having managed the initial hurdles of starting a business, Darizel continues to refine her production as she prepares for the further growth of her enterprise.
