Local government and youth leaders delivered inspiring messages of support during the my.ComApps TechUp launch, uniting behind the mission to bring practical digital education directly to out-of-school youth (OSY). Iligan City Councilor Hon. Nhicole Capampangan highlighted the urgent need for practical tech skills in an increasingly digital world, advocating for active partnerships between universities, local government, and community organizations to ensure every youth is reached. Echoing this commitment, Balo-i SK Chairperson Hon. Salman Ali emphasized that young people can only truly become the hope of the nation when given concrete platforms to learn, build confidence, and discover their full potential through hands-on opportunities.

Barangay Tipanoy Kagawad Hon. Doreen Joyce J. Doverte expressed deep gratitude to MSU-IIT for selecting local youth to participate in the training, commending the participants' dedication to improving their lives. She emphasized that the computer assembly and servicing skills gained through the workshop provide out-of-school youth with tangible tools for future employment, further education, and community growth—cementing a shared commitment among local leaders to build a stronger community by investing in the youth today.

ILIGAN CITY, Philippines — The second day of my.ComApps OSY TechUp continued at the CCS Embedded Laboratory, onboarding out-of-school youth into the practical aspects of operating system installation on desktop computers. Led by instructor Jofel Batutay, the session provided participants with guided, hands-on experience in building fundamental technical competencies.

During the workshop, participants familiarized themselves with the essential tools required to create bootable media and perform step-by-step Windows OS installations on desktop units. Beyond basic software setup, this interactive exposure equips participants with practical expertise crucial for Computer Systems Servicing (CSS), unlocking future career opportunities and tech-driven livelihoods.

Elevating the session’s impact, Mr. Leonhel Fortin showcased actual project outputs created by Bachelor of Science in Computer Applications (BSCA) students. The showcase served as a powerful source of inspiration—demonstrating how entry-level hardware and software skills can evolve into advanced technological solutions.

Academic staff from the Department of Computer Applications highlighted the vital role of the Bachelor of Science in Computer Applications (BSCA) program during the opening of my.ComApps TechUp: A Community-Based Training for Out-of-School Youth. Former Computer Applications faculty member Ernesto E. Empig, now with the School of Interdisciplinary Studies (SIS), emphasized that the true power of Computer Applications lies in merging hardware and software to solve real-world community problems, turning students into proactive innovators who build technology that directly serves their local neighborhoods. By fostering a "Do-It-Yourself" (DIY) mindset through multidisciplinary training in programming, electronics, and system integration, the department ensures that technology becomes truly meaningful when local barangays directly benefit from student-led innovations.

Framing the outreach as a bridge between university resources and community extension, CA Department Chairperson Paul Rodolf P. Castor stressed that access to technology becomes truly meaningful when people are given the opportunity to build confidence in their own capacity to learn, encouraging participants to embrace trial and error. Project Leader Excel Van O. Jondonero affirmed that my.ComApps aims to provide practical computer servicing skills and confidence to every youth—whether enrolled or out of school—assuring participants that no prior technical background is needed to gain equal opportunities for their future.

ILIGAN CITY, Philippines — The Department of Computer Applications officially kicked off the my.ComApps TechUp workshop on August 20, 2026, at the ICT 1C Conference Room. Headed by project lead Mr. Excel Van O. Jondonero alongside faculty members of the Department of Computer Applications, the capacity-building program aims to empower out-of-school youth (OSY) across Iligan City and Lanao del Norte by making practical computer servicing and hardware training accessible.

The initiative directly addresses a critical gap in regional digital education. Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) data shows that over 10.7 million Filipinos aged 5 to 24 are currently not enrolled in school. Locally, a 2023 MSU-IIT survey confirmed that OSYs in Iligan face severe constraints in accessing structured technical training, while simultaneously expressing strong interest in hands-on learning opportunities.

To bridge this divide, OSY TechUp adapts the department's established my.ComApps framework into beginner-friendly modules tailored to the learning pace of out-of-school participants. The hands-on curriculum covers computer hardware assembly, system disassembly, basic troubleshooting, operating system installation, and introductory artificial intelligence concepts.

Executed in partnership with local Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) councils, youth leaders serve as primary community partners in identifying participants, securing local venues, and mobilizing their barangays. The project also prioritizes social equity and gender inclusion, ensuring workshops are designed as safe, welcoming spaces for all participants, including women and LGBTQ+ youth, to build functional skills for computer servicing, potential employment, or further academic growth.

Today, Sangguniang Kabataan Federation President Hon. Salman H. Ali paid a courtesy visit to the National Youth Commission NEM Office, serving Region X and Caraga Region.

The visit was warmly welcomed by NYC NEM Head Karenne B. Añover, together with the personnel of the National Youth Commission NEM Office.

The engagement aimed to strengthen collaboration and coordination in promoting youth participation, leadership development, and the active involvement of young people in governance and nation-building.
