Two officers from Invigorate: Bridging Ambitions and Aspirations of Youth Organization (I-BAAY) proudly and successfully completed the three-day Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CBDRRM) Training conducted by the Office of Civil Defense โ Region I on May 28โ30, 2026, at Hotel Ariana and Restaurant, Paringao, Bauang, La Union.
The training aimed to equip participants with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to implement Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) approaches that are applicable within communities before, during, and after disasters. Through a series of interactive discussions and learning sessions, participants gained a deeper understanding of disaster preparedness, risk reduction, community resilience, and the importance of active community involvement in disaster management.
Key topics discussed during the training included The Philippine Disaster Context, Understanding Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (CBDRRM), DRRM Thematic Areas, and Action Planning. These sessions provided valuable insights into the current disaster landscape of the country and emphasized the role of communities and local leaders in creating sustainable and effective disaster preparedness programs.
Over the course of the three-day training, the participating I-BAAY officers engaged in discussions, workshops, and planning activities that highlighted the importance of community participation in disaster risk reduction and management. The sessions provided practical perspectives on identifying local hazards, understanding community vulnerabilities, and developing strategies that can help minimize disaster impacts.
The training served as an opportunity not only to learn technical concepts but also to exchange ideas and experiences with fellow youth leaders and community representatives from different areas. These interactions encouraged participants to view disaster preparedness as a collective effort that requires cooperation, awareness, and proactive planning at the community level.
I-BAAY is grateful to the Office of Civil Defense โ Region I and the resource speakers for sharing their expertise and creating a meaningful learning environment throughout the program. The insights gained from the training will help strengthen the organization's future initiatives and support its commitment to community engagement and youth development.
As the organization continues to pursue programs that create positive impact, the lessons learned from the CBDRRM Training will serve as a valuable guide in promoting safer and more prepared communities.
