Basa Bihasa successfully held its first community engagement session at the Barangay Library of City Camp Central, marking the beginning of its mission to strengthen the reading skills of young learners in the community.
Before the session began, the advocates cleaned and prepared the library to create a comfortable and welcoming learning space. The children arrived earlier than the call time, filled with excitement. One learner shared, “Sa sobrang excited po ako ate, hindi na po ako nag-umagahan para maaga ako makapunta,” reflecting their eagerness to participate.
The program formally started at 10:00 AM with an opening prayer led by Ate Gwai, followed by opening remarks from lead advocate Ate Jade. The session included an ice breaker facilitated by Kuya Glynson, a reading assessment led by Kuya Arcee with one-on-one assistance from the advocates, and a short spelling bee activity.
After a wellness break, the children joined individual reading sessions and shared their insights about the stories they read. The program concluded with a simple awarding ceremony and a message from Hon. Gerald S. Alangui, Committee Chair on Social Services and Education of City Camp Central, followed by a closing prayer.
This first session marks the beginning of a shared journey toward building confidence, competence, and a stronger reading culture within the community.
