We know many of our participants, partners, and supporters have been eagerly counting down to this year’s ‼️Baguio Gong Festival‼️

This year, we are doing things a little differently. To ensure we can gather, dance, and celebrate under the best possible conditions, our main Gong Festival Day is moving to early 2027.

But the celebrations don’t have to wait! This year marks a NEW JOURNEY for our Festival. We are kicking things off with a series of meaningful, intimate, and exciting events this October and November as a prelude.

𝗗𝗜𝗔𝗟𝗢𝗚𝗨𝗘 𝗢𝗡 𝗕𝗨𝗟𝗟𝗬𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗧
The city government led by Mayor Benjamin Magalong convened a dialogue with the family of the victim of a recent viral bullying incident involving minor students of Pinget National High School this afternoon, Aug. 31, 2026.

They were joined by the members of the Kalinga Organization of Baguio-Benguet, the principal of Pinget National High School and heads of the Baguio City Police Office, the City Social Welfare and Development Office, the City Legal Office, and other relevant offices.

The dialogue provided the parties involved to air out their grievances and engage in a clarificatory discussion.

The victim's family comes from Kalinga and was thus joined by several Kalinga elders and legal experts.

Through the discussion, various rumors that arose claiming that revenge is sought after by the victim's indigenous tribe in line with Kalinga customs were dispelled, rather, the elders said that engaging in inclusive community dialogue in order to resolve the issue is what their culture encourages.

During the talks, some family members and participants pushed for heavier correction, as opposed to the five-day suspension that was imposed on the offending minors. However, Pinget National High School principal Johnny Kidian said that the disciplinary sanction imposed was in line with the decision of the assigned Child Protection Committee and the Department of Education's guidelines. He emphasized that it was not final and is still subject to appeal and further action. Any additional action will need the recommendation of the schools' division superintendent.

The CSWDO said it continues to provide psychosocial support for all children involved. The City Legal Office then advised the participating parties that legal action cannot be applied on the children themselves as the parents of the children are the ones legally responsible.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong expressed relief that the dialogue cleared up the misunderstandings and misinformation circulating around the incident. He said all parties concerned must let the investigation run its course and wait for the final decision. - Kemm Olarte
