BAGUIO CITY, Philippines โ April 9, 2026. The Cordillera Peoples Alliance (CPA) will spearhead the 42nd Peoplesโ Cordillera Day through decentralized celebrations from April 24โ25 across the region. Activities will be held in Itogon (April 22); Kalinga and Abra (April 24); Mountain Province, Ifugao, and Benguet Cluster (April 24โ25); Apayao (April 25); and Baguio City (April 24โ25). Beyond the Cordillera, commemorations will also take place in Manila (April 18), Canada (April 11), and Hong Kong (April 19).
This yearโs central theme, โIpinget ti Karbengan iti Daga, Biag, ken Kabiagan!โ (Assert Our Right to Land, Life, and Livelihood), underscores the fight against development aggression, corruption, imperialist plunder, militarization, and state fascism, while drawing attention to the worsening impact of the national oil crisis on peopleโs welfare and livelihood.
โPeoplesโ Cordillera Day is not just a commemoration. It is a political gathering to confront the burning issues of our time. Hundreds of mining and renewable energy projects continue to threaten ancestral lands, with major projects facing strong opposition from affected communities. On top of this, the oil price shock is hitting hardest in Baguio Cityโs transport sector and among the Cordillera peasantry,โ said Ned Tuguinay, spokesperson of the Cordillera Peoples Alliance.
Decentralized celebrations will spotlight local struggles, each aligned with the central theme. These gatherings will provide host communities and organizations with opportunities to highlight grassroots realities and rally around urgent demands.
The Cordillera Peoples Alliance calls on communities, media, organizations, and solidarity groups to join the commemorations. We urge the public to stand with the people in defending ancestral territories, asserting livelihood, exposing corruption, and advancing human rights and social justice especially in these difficult times. #
