๐Ÿ—“๏ธ APRIL 24, 1:00 - 4:00 PM
๐Ÿ“Œ Block 4, Baguio Public Market

Makiisa tayo sa AG-AGONG: Community Conversation on Land, Life, and Livelihood in Times of Crisis ngayong Abril 24, 1 PM sa Block 4, Baguio Public Market, bilang bahagi ng paggunita sa ika-42 Peopleโ€™s Cordillera Day.

Itatta nga ti Abril 24, maysa nga karit kadatayu nga umay ken makipanagkaykaysa nga magselebrar iti Aldaw Kordilyera. Daga, biag, kinabaknang, salakniban! โœŠ

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines โ€” April 9, 2026. The Cordillera Peoples Alliance (CPA) will spearhead the 42nd Peoplesโ€™ Cordillera Day through decentralized celebrations from April 24โ€“25 across the region. Activities will be held in Itogon (April 22); Kalinga and Abra (April 24); Mountain Province, Ifugao, and Benguet Cluster (April 24โ€“25); Apayao (April 25); and Baguio City (April 24โ€“25). Beyond the Cordillera, commemorations will also take place in Manila (April 18), Canada (April 11), and Hong Kong (April 19).

This yearโ€™s central theme, โ€œIpinget ti Karbengan iti Daga, Biag, ken Kabiagan!โ€ (Assert Our Right to Land, Life, and Livelihood), underscores the fight against development aggression, corruption, imperialist plunder, militarization, and state fascism, while drawing attention to the worsening impact of the national oil crisis on peopleโ€™s welfare and livelihood.

โ€œPeoplesโ€™ Cordillera Day is not just a commemoration. It is a political gathering to confront the burning issues of our time. Hundreds of mining and renewable energy projects continue to threaten ancestral lands, with major projects facing strong opposition from affected communities. On top of this, the oil price shock is hitting hardest in Baguio Cityโ€™s transport sector and among the Cordillera peasantry,โ€ said Ned Tuguinay, spokesperson of the Cordillera Peoples Alliance.

Decentralized celebrations will spotlight local struggles, each aligned with the central theme. These gatherings will provide host communities and organizations with opportunities to highlight grassroots realities and rally around urgent demands.

The Cordillera Peoples Alliance calls on communities, media, organizations, and solidarity groups to join the commemorations. We urge the public to stand with the people in defending ancestral territories, asserting livelihood, exposing corruption, and advancing human rights and social justice especially in these difficult times. #

6 MIN READThe backlash over Romeo Ogongโ€™s remarks during Ibaloy Day showed how โ€œjust a jokeโ€ is often used to dismiss sexist language. For many women and young people in the city, misogyny is not abstract. It is familiar, personal, and embedded in everyday public life.

The family and colleagues of Sarah Abellon-Alikes are seeking for your kind assistance for her medical treatment. She recently suffered a stroke, and is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital. This will be followed by continuous medication and therapy for at least six months, as advised by her doctors, to aid in her recovery. Any amount of financial support will go a long way in helping the family cover the costs of hospitalization, medicines, rehabilitation and recovery.

Sarah Abellon-Alikes, a Kankanaey-Igorot Indigenous activist and development worker, is among the founders of the Cordillera Peoples Alliance (CPA) in 1984. She has, since then, been a full-time volunteer of the organization, actively defending peopleโ€™s rights in the region. From 2017 to present, she has faced several fabricated charges that were filed against her by state agents, most of which were dismissed by the courts. To date, she continues to face a pending case involving false terrorism financing charges. She was also among the four CPA leaders who were unjustly designated as terrorists by the Anti-Terrorism Council in 2023. All of these have already caused significant financial, emotional and psychological burdens on Sarah Alikes and her family over the years.
