Are you feeling the weight of the world’s "heavy" realities lately? 🫂

Whether you are an international student far from home or a local student eager to connect, we invite you to participate a sacred, inclusive space where international and local students unite to foster a sense of "home" through shared prayer.
In a world facing displacement, economic crisis, and natural disasters, let’s bridge our divides and honor the "common threads" of peace together.

🕊️ What to Expect...
Candle Lighting: 10epresentatives from different countries/religions will pray for specific global crises in their own dialects.
The "Seven Directions" Prayer: A beautiful moment to pray for everything from the wisdom of ancestors to the peace within our own hearts.
The Prayerful Tree: Share your personal hopes and laments by "clothing" a bare tree with colorful prayer leaves.
Shared Silence & Song: Honoring victims of recent wars and disasters, followed by a collective singing of "Make Me a Channel of Your Peace".

Let’s move beyond the headlines and empower one another to be the peace we seek.

🌏✨ Global Splash: Celebrating the New Year Together ✨🌏

At the International Students Association, we believe our campus is a bridge between worlds.
This month, we are diving into the beautiful traditions of our Southeast Asian community as they celebrate the New Year through the power of water! 💦

For many of our students, water isn’t just for fun—it’s a symbol of washing away the past and refreshing the soul for the year ahead.

Even though we’re far from home, the spirit of renewal remains the same:
🇹🇭 Songkran (Thailand): Turning our streets into splash zones of pure joy! It’s all about fresh starts and vibrant energy.
🇲🇲 Thingyan (Myanmar): A time for purification and merit-making. We honor the tradition of kindness, charity, and gentle water blessings.
🇰🇭 Chaul Chnam Thmey (Cambodia): Focusing on family, temple visits, and offering blessings of peace and prosperity to those around us.
🇱🇦 Pi Mai Lao (Laos): A beautiful blend of respect and fun, where water is poured to honor elders and welcome good fortune.

On April 10, 𝙈𝙨. 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙁𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙨, President of the International Students Association, had the distinct honor of representing Saint Louis University and her home country, Myanmar, at the 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗜𝗜𝗜: 𝗖𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 held at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) organized by the UST Asian Studies Society in Manila, Philippines.

During this prestigious diplomatic engagement, she had the privilege of joining a diplomatic dialogue with 𝙃.𝙀. 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘼𝙢𝙗𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙙𝙤𝙧 𝙤𝙛 𝙏𝙞𝙢𝙤𝙧 𝙇𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙚, 𝙃.𝙀. 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘼𝙢𝙗𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙙𝙤𝙧 𝙤𝙛 𝘽𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙡𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙨𝙝, 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙪𝙞𝙨𝙝𝙚𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘿𝙚𝙥𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙞𝙜𝙣 𝘼𝙛𝙛𝙖𝙞𝙧𝙨 (𝘿𝙁𝘼) 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙊𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡𝙨 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙐𝙉𝙃𝘾𝙍 𝙋𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨 𝙩𝙤𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙙𝙞𝙥𝙡𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙙𝙫𝙤𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙨 in a shared space that celebrated diversity while fostering dialogue across borders. It aimed not only to showcase traditions, but also to cultivate future leaders capable of bridging cultures in an increasingly interconnected world.

During the diplomatic engagement, Ms. Mary Frances delivered a talk titled, “𝙑𝙤𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙈𝙮𝙖𝙣𝙢𝙖𝙧 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮: 𝙇𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙙 𝙀𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙉𝙖𝙧𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚.” She emphasized that resilience is the “unbroken spirit” that empowers individuals to overcome life’s challenges, regardless of circumstance.

She offered a glimpse into the realities faced by her people, grounding her message in both personal insight and collective experience. She also shared the devastating memory of the 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar in March last year, which is considered the most devastating seismic event in the region since 1912.

In these trying times, marked by conflicts across nations and ongoing economic uncertainty, it becomes ever more important to recognize the strength we hold in common: community. After all, we share the same planet, bound not by borders, but by our collective humanity. In an era of global uncertainty, we, advocates remain committed to contributing to the betterment of the Myanmar people and all marginalized communities worldwide.
