Learning Session on Agroecology in Bila, Bokod, Benguet.

A learning session on agroecology was held at the Barangay Hall of Bila, Bokod, Benguet, facilitated by the IGOROTA staff.

The session served as an opportunity to validate the agroecology module developed based on the previous conversations and experiences shared by the women partners.

The validation aimed to determine whether the module was relevant, understandable, and effective in addressing the partnersโ€™ learning needs and experiences. At the end of the session, the partners shared that the module met their expectations.

Despite the challenges brought by Typhoon, the spirit of learning continued.

We were honored to welcome Markus Wolter, an agroecology advocate from Misereor, Germany for a learning exchange.

As part of his visit to selected Misereor partner organizations in the Philippines, IGOROTA was privileged to be among those recommended for the exchange.

For almost 30 years, Misereor has been a partner of the IGOROTA Foundation, supporting our mission of empowering Indigenous women and communities through agroecology, sustainable livelihoods, and community-led development.

Our original plan was to bring Markus to visit one of our partner communities and their agroecological gardens. However, due to the heavy rains and unsafe road conditions caused by the typhoon, we had to adjust our itinerary.

Instead, we visited the Central Tublay Organic Farm, managed by the Local Government Unit of Tublay.

The farm showcased sustainable farming practices, organic vegetable production, and the commitment to ecological agriculture.

Markus greatly appreciated the initiative and was impressed by the local government's efforts in promoting such farming and supporting farmers.

While the weather changed our plans, it did not diminish the value of the exchange. It became another reminder that resilience, collaboration, and a shared commitment to sustainable agriculture continue to strengthen our partnerships.

Conversation with Bokod Community Partners

IGOROTA Foundation conducted a centralized conversation with its community partners in Bokod to discuss strategies for simplifying the training modules under its core programs: Gender and Development, Social Enterprise, Sustainable Agriculture, and Ancestral Domain.

The goal is to make the modules easier for community members to understand while developing more effective and engaging training strategies.

The activity was held at Bagong Purok, Poblacion, Bokod, Benguet, and was attended by partner organizations from Bila, Daclan, Nawal, and Poblacion.

Through this, participants shared ideas and experiences to help strengthen the delivery of the Foundation's programs and ensure they are more responsive to the needs of the communities.

It has been more than decades of partnership between IGOROTA Foundation and the people of Mayag, Bauko, Mountain Province.

This partnership has strengthened the spirit of sharing and helping one another.

One of the most inspiring legacies of this partnership is the Passing on the Gift (POG) program of Heifer International implemented by IGOROTA.

We are grateful to see that this tradition continues to thrive in Mayag, where the community simply calls it "Pass On."

Even today, families continue to pass on what they have received to another family, allowing more households to benefit and creating a ripple effect of hope and opportunity.

The concept of Passing on the Gift traces back to Dan West, an American farmer and humanitarian who founded Heifer International in 1944.

While serving in Spain during the Spanish Civil War, he realized that donating cups of milk provided only temporary relief. He believed that giving a family a heifer (young cow), along with the knowledge and skills to care for it, would provide lasting nourishment, a sustainable source of income, and the dignity of becoming self-reliant.

More importantly, each recipient would then pass on the first female offspring to another family, multiplying the impact from one household to the next.

Passing on the Gift is more than the transfer of livestock, it is the passing on of hope, generosity, responsibility, and compassion.

It reflects the values of sharing blessings, building stronger communities, promoting self-reliance, and ensuring that every family has the opportunity to improve their lives while helping others do the same.

Today, the continued practice of "Pass On" in Mayag is a testament to the community's commitment to these values. It proves that a simple act of generosity can create a lasting legacy that continues to uplift generations.

Visit to Mantahas Weaving in Balingo, Hapao, Hungduan, Ifugao

As part of the Social Enterprise Program of IGOROTA Foundation and its advocacy for cultural preservation, the staff visited Mantahas Weaving and its display store in Balingo, Hapao, Hungduan, Ifugao.

The visit aimed to explore a potential partnership that would help promote locally handcrafted woven products while supporting the livelihoods of local weavers.

Through this, IGOROTA Foundation will establish a product display area at its office in Crystal Cave, Baguio City providing a venue where these handmade products can be showcased and promoted to a wider market.

This initiative also strengthens the Foundation's commitment to preserving Indigenous weaving traditions and empowering local communities through sustainable social enterprise.

The IGOROTA Foundation staff celebrated Cordillera Day amidst the breathtaking mountains and rivers of Mayoyao and Hungduan, Ifugao... a meaningful reminder of the beauty of our ancestral lands and why they deserve our protection.

The team also held conversations with the partner women's organizations to review and improve the program modules. The discussions gathered valuable insights from the communities to ensure that the modules are more relevant, easier to understand, and more effective when implemented.

Through this, we continue to strengthen our programs and empower Indigenous women and their communities.

65 Women Partners Receive Rice Assistance, Encouraged to Revive Backyard Gardening

POLIS, Kibungan, Benguet โ€” June 22, 2026 โ€” Sixty-five women partners received rice assistance from the Igorota Foundation, Inc. (IFI) through its Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Program led by Ronalyn Butil in Polis, Kibungan, Benguet.

The activity was conducted as part of IFIโ€™s advocay to help communities cope with the impacts of climate change and disasters on food security and household livelihoods.

Aside from the rice distribution, participants were encouraged to revive and maintain backyard gardens by planting vegetables such as beans, mustard, and onions.

This aims to help families produce their own food, improve household nutrition, and strengthen preparedness during emergencies and difficult times.

According to Butil, backyard gardening remains a practical and sustainable way for families to secure a source of fresh vegetables while reducing food expenses.

Furthermore, she also emphasized the importance of community participation in promoting food security and resilience amid changing climate conditions.

In addition, livelihood assistance was discussed during the activity.

Through the project, the women partnersโ€™ organization is set to receive โ‚ฑ80,000 to support its livelihood assistance to strengthen its economic activities.

Seeds were also distributed to Polis Barrio School through the women partnersโ€™ organization as part of their partnership in promoting organic farming and supporting gardening and food production activities.

Meanwhile, materials such as drums, hoses, and other watering equipment will be provided to Polis Barrio School to assist in the establishment and maintenance of its school garden.

Moreover, Merqula Dayso, Project Officer, officially turned over the documents of the partner organization for proper filing and record-keeping. The documents contained reports, records, and other pertinent information related to the implementation of activities under the M10 Project.

This turnover is for the safekeeping and accessibility of project documents for future reference, monitoring, and evaluation purposes.
