Through our cultural booth, “𝐊𝐍𝐎𝐖 𝐀𝐒𝐄𝐀𝐍," we engaged participants in an interactive learning experience designed to deepen their knowledge of the 11 ASEAN member states, including their national identities, geographical locations, and iconic landmarks.

Through fun and educational games, we promoted cultural awareness, appreciation of regional diversity, and a stronger sense of friendship and unity among ASEAN nations.

We are proud to announce that our team secured 𝟏𝐒𝐓 𝐑𝐔𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐑-𝐔𝐏 in the ASEAN Booth Competition! 🥈🎉

This achievement reflects our shared commitment to celebrating diversity, fostering intercultural understanding, and building meaningful connections within the ASEAN community.

PROJECT D.I.G. | International Students' Week & 2026 ASEAN Month Celebration ✨

Beyond university borders is a culture of regional friendship and diverse traditions and ideologies that can be learned to strengthen understanding, appreciation, and connection with others through the power of globalization.

The Office of Student Affairs, through Project D.I.G. (The Power of Diverse Ideologies in Globalization), invites all interested students of the university to learn more about the community outside the Philippines in celebration of International Students' Week and the ASEAN Month Celebration on October 19, 2026 (Monday) at the UB Cardinals' Gymnasium.

The program features an international cultural parade, keynote addresses, performing arts presentations, an intercultural knowledge exchange, and interactive cultural booths. It shall also include "Faith on the Plate: Food, Spirituality, and Cultural Identity" and the ASEAN Friendship Presentation, fostering cultural appreciation, collaboration, and camaraderie among participants.

The afternoon session of the 2nd Indigenous Peoples Student Convention 2026 featured𝙈𝙨. 𝘾𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙡 𝘾𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙢𝙖 𝙂𝙖𝙬𝙞𝙨𝙖𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙧𝙙𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙧𝙖 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝘾𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧 (𝘾𝙔𝘾), who facilitated a discussion on strengthening solidarity, fostering a sense of belonging, and encouraging collective engagement among Indigenous youth.

The session explored the rich cultural heritage, diverse communities, ancestral lands, and natural resources of the Cordillera. Participants were encouraged to reflect on the significance of ancestral domains in shaping Indigenous identities, sustaining cultural traditions, and maintaining the connections between communities and their environment.

The discussion also emphasized the important role of Indigenous youth in safeguarding their heritage, upholding their rights, and contributing to the continued well-being of their communities.
The conversation further highlighted pressing concerns affecting Indigenous Peoples, including threats to ancestral lands, environmental challenges, and the impacts of large-scale development projects on Indigenous territories and livelihoods.

These discussions underscored the importance of informed participation, community solidarity, and collective engagement in addressing issues that affect Indigenous Peoples and their ancestral domains.

Through these conversations, participants were reminded that solidarity goes beyond shared identities. It involves listening to community voices, respecting diverse experiences, supporting collective aspirations, and working together to protect Indigenous rights and cultural heritage. By fostering a stronger sense of belonging and encouraging active participation, Indigenous youth can help build more inclusive, resilient, and empowered communities.

Moving forward, Indigenous youth are encouraged to continue learning from their communities, embracing their cultural identities, and transforming their shared aspirations into meaningful action. Their voices, knowledge, and participation are vital in shaping a future where Indigenous rights are respected, ancestral domains are protected, and cultural heritage continues to thrive.

The session concluded with a community dance led by UBBUK, bringing participants together through movement, cultural expression, and shared appreciation of Indigenous heritage. The activity celebrated unity, strengthened connections among participants, and reinforced the spirit of solidarity and belonging within the university community.

Meanwhile, digital platforms provide opportunities to share cultural knowledge, reach wider audiences, and promote awareness of Indigenous heritage, provided that cultural protocols, appropriate consent, and community perspectives are respected.

The session reminded participants that cultural appreciation goes beyond posting photographs, videos, or performances. It requires sharing knowledge responsibly, observing cultural protocols, and recognizing the people, histories, and meanings behind every cultural expression. While technology offers opportunities to promote Indigenous heritage, it also calls for greater responsibility in addressing misinformation, cultural misrepresentation, and the inappropriate use of cultural symbols and practices.

More importantly, preserving culture begins with personal commitment and meaningful participation in community life. By combining cultural learning, respectful engagement, and responsible digital sharing, students can help ensure that Indigenous knowledge, traditions, and identities remain valued, relevant, and meaningful for present and future generations.

The first session of the 2nd Indigenous Peoples Student Convention 2026 featured 𝘼𝙩𝙩𝙮. 𝙍𝙖𝙢𝙤𝙣 𝘼. 𝘼𝙣𝙩𝙤𝙣𝙞𝙤 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙣 𝙄𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙋𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚𝙨 (𝙉𝘾𝙄𝙋 𝘾𝘼𝙍), who provided an informative discussion on the Indigenous Peoples in the Philippines, the Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Act of 1997 (IPRA), or Republic Act No. 8371, and the role of the NCIP in protecting and promoting Indigenous Peoples’ rights.

Atty. Antonio discussed the four bundles of rights recognized under IPRA: rights to ancestral domains and lands, rights to self-governance and empowerment, social justice and human rights, and rights to cultural integrity. He also explained the NCIP’s role in implementing policies, programs, and services that uphold these rights.

The session highlighted the inseparable connection between Indigenous rights, environmental stewardship, and cultural preservation. Atty. Antonio emphasized the role of Indigenous Peoples as traditional stewards of the environment, whose knowledge systems and practices contribute to safeguarding mountains, forests, watersheds, and other natural resources for future generations.

Another key focus was Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC), a process that safeguards Indigenous communities’ right to participate in decisions affecting their ancestral domains, resources, and collective interests. The discussion underscored the importance of respecting community decision-making processes and ensuring that Indigenous Peoples have a meaningful voice in matters concerning their territories.

The session reaffirmed that understanding IPRA goes beyond knowing the law. It involves recognizing Indigenous Peoples as rights holders, respecting their self-determination, and acknowledging their contributions to cultural preservation and environmental sustainability. Protecting ancestral domains also means respecting the communities, knowledge systems, and cultural traditions that have sustained them for generations.
