This 60th International Literacy Day, we celebrate every child who discovers the magic of reading—and every parent, teacher, volunteer, and community member who helps put a book within their reach.

Because literacy is not just about learning to read.

It is about giving children the power to imagine more, believe more, and become more.

Here’s to building a world where every child has a book, a voice, and the opportunity to dream. 🌏📖

📚✨ The Book Blessings Continue! ✨📚

The books keep traveling—and reaching more readers along the way. 💛

This latest batch has replenished two HOB Libraries established way back in 2018–2019:

📖 Sanijubar Elementary School — Agoo, La Union
📖 San Jose Apunan Elementary School — Lubao, Pampanga

And the story goes beyond our HOB shelves! Some books were also shared with Grounded by the Society of Geodetic Engineering Majors (UP GEOP) and the University Community Outreach Program of Philippine Women’s University, through our wonderful partner volunteers from both universities. 🎓📚

Because sometimes, a book’s journey doesn’t end at one library—it keeps moving from one community to another, carrying stories, possibilities, and the love of reading along with it. 🌱

The article captures what this recognition truly means to us: 31 libraries built, books reaching 26,000 children, and a community of people who continue to believe that every child deserves a place to read, learn, and dream.

LINKS Philippines' 𝐻𝑜𝑜𝑘𝑒𝑑 𝑜𝑛 𝐵𝑜𝑜𝑘𝑠 program has won the 2026 International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY)-Asahi Reading Promotion Award, selected from a field of nine finalists and announced at the IBBY Annual Press Conference in Bologna. The award was formally presented last August 9 at the 40th IBBY World Congress in Ottawa.

Given every two years since 1986, the IBBY-Asahi Award judges one project at a time on how far it actually reached and whether its model could work elsewhere, not on an organization's overall reputation. That's a high bar for a program built from local libraries, LGU partnerships, and volunteer muralists, and it's the one LINKS cleared.

Ningning C. Doble co-founded LINKS, short for Linking Individuals to Nurture Kids' Success, in 2016. Since 2017, its 𝐻𝑜𝑜𝑘𝑒𝑑 𝑜𝑛 𝐵𝑜𝑜𝑘𝑠 program has built 25 libraries, reaching over 21,600 children, and trained more than 1,000 educators and volunteers. Each library tends to carry the community it serves: boat-shaped shelves for a Tagbanua fishing village in Palawan, murals of Carlos Bulosan and longganisa in Binalonan, Cordilleran motifs in Baguio.

The award carries a US$10,000 grant from Asahi and a diploma.

❤️ THE MOMENT WE’LL CARRY HOME | IBBY–ASAHI READING PROMOTION AWARD 2026

We stood on the stage in Ottawa holding an award that, in truth, belongs to so many people. 🇵🇭📚❤️

Our President, Ms. Maria Consuelo “Ningning” Doble, accepted the 2026 IBBY–Asahi Reading Promotion Award on behalf of LINKS Philippines and delivered our acceptance speech before the international IBBY community.

From Asahi Shimbun and IBBY, we received the shūgi-bukuro, our diploma as the award winner, and the certificate for the USD 10,000 prize that comes with this recognition.

But behind these certificates and this award is a 10-year journey.

A journey made possible by every LINKS volunteer who sorted books, painted libraries, facilitated activities, traveled to communities, carried boxes, read stories, and gave their time and heart to children.

By every teacher, parent, school, community, donor, partner, and supporter who believed in what we were building.

By every child who opened a book and discovered that there was a whole world waiting inside.

This award may carry the name LINKS Philippines, but the story behind it carries all of your names. ❤️

To everyone who has walked with us over the past 10 years: this moment is yours, too.
