𝐎𝐏𝐏𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐄𝐃𝐒 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who took part in 𝐁𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐃𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐒: 𝐀 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐮𝐦 𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐋𝐚𝐰 last September 18, 2025.

Fifty-three years since the declaration of Martial Law, and yet the shadow of dictatorship looms large. The same family who once plundered our nation and left us in ruins now sits in power, as if we had forgotten our past. While Marcos Sr.’s tyrannical administration silenced dissent with abduction, imprisonment, torture, and killings; Marcos Jr.’s current administration poses a risk to repeat history by perpetuating the same atrocities to the people they are mandated to serve–corruption, abuse of power, and the culture of impunity. Corruption weakens our institutions: it leads to inadequate vital services for the people while public funds keep being siphoned away from the nation’s coffers to corrupt wallets. As the Filipino people bear the brunt of the crises and resilience is used to mask incompetence, like in the 1970s, people will take to the streets to demand accountability and protection, never corruption.

Amnesty International Philippines UP Baguio (AIPh UPB) stands in solidarity as we remember the bravery of martyrs during this oppressive period. We carry on their will and their stories. Enough is enough; it is time to collectively fight back and demand our needs be heard. The nationwide protests reflected the national frustration over the unjust systems that prevail in stepping on our human rights.

As we continue to face the whip-like impact of natural disasters, to the administration, we ask, 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵'𝘴 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘯𝘦𝘹𝘵 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘦?

Join the movement. Protect the protest. Never again! Never forget!

Ngayong araw ay muling ginugunita ng mga Filipino ang isang madilim na yugto sa kasaysayan ng bansa na siya ring daan upang ipagpugay ang mga tagapagtanggol ng karapatang pantao at kanilang mga pamilya na dumaan sa matinding panunupil, kurapsyon at paglabag sa karapatang pantao sa ilalim ng Batas Militar ni Marcos Sr.. Ang kanilang mga sakripisyo ang nagpapaalala sa atin na mabigat ang kapalit ng pagsasalita at pagtindig laban sa kawalan ng katarungan sa ilalim ng awtoritaryanismo, at kung paano ito nagbunsod ng people power upang lumaban tungo sa kalayaan kung saan walang sinuman ang naiiwan.

Ang paggunita ngayong taon ay nagsisilbing paalala rin ng diwa ng maka-masang pagkilos para sa mga patuloy na humaharap sa mga suliraning panlipunan na iniwan ng diktaduryang Marcos. Makalipas ang 53 taon, nananatiling problema ang isyu ng kurapsyon, pang-aabuso sa kapangyarihan, at kultura ng impunidad. Patuloy na bumabagabag sa mga Filipino ang kawalan ng batayang serbisyo na kumakatawan sa karapatang pang-ekonomiya, panlipunan at pangkultura na higit na kailangan ng bawat isa upang mamuhay ng may dignidad. Pinahihina ng maling pamamahala ang mga institusyon at inilalagay sa mas alanganing sitwasyon ang napakaraming Filipino lalo na ang pinaka-naghihirap.

Nasa pinakamapanganib na yugto tayo ng ating panlipunang seguridad ngayon kagaya noong panahon ni Marcos Sr.. Habang patuloy na pinagsasamantalahan ng mga nasa kapangyarihan ang yaman ng bayan, patuloy tayong binibigo ng administrasyong Marcos Jr. na bigyan ng mga mahahalagang panlipunang proteksyon na higit na kailangan sa panahong puno ng kaguluhan at agam-agam, tulad ng dulot ng pandaigdigang krisis sa klima na pinagdadaanan ng maraming indibidwal at komunidad. Hindi dapat nauulit ang kasaysayang pinagdaanan noong panahon ng Martial Law.

Nakikiisa ang Amnesty International Philippines sa lahat ng mga indibidwal at grupo na patuloy na lumalaban sa kurapsyon, kahirapan at kakulangan ng serbisyong panlipunan. Ang malawakang kilos-protesta sa buong bansa ay malinaw na tanda ng matinding pagkadismaya sa hindi matugon-tugunang batayang pangangailangan ng mga mamayan. Gaya noong dekada ’70, muling bumabalik sa lansangan ang taumbayan upang magprotesta at manawagan ng pananagutan.

Malinaw ang sigaw ng sambayanang Filipino - ang kailangan ng bansa ay mga agarang hakbang upang wakasan ang talamak na kultura ng impunidad na siyang patuloy na nagpapalaganap ng kurapsyon at nagdudulot ng higit pang paglabag sa karapatang pantao. Dapat palakasin ng pamahalaan ni Marcos Jr. ang mga pambansang batas at institusyon upang sugpuin ang kurapsyon, tiyakin ang pananagutan sa mga kaso ng katiwalian, at wakasan ang kultura ng kalabisan na iniwan ng diktadurya ng kanyang ama at ilang taong pananamantala ng Pamilyang Marcos sa pinaghirapang buwis ng taumbayan.
