Ang kasaysayan ng UP Namnama ay nakaugat sa pakikibaka sa panahon ng Batas Militar. Mula rito ay nagbunga ang Panaglagip (“to remember”).

Taon-taon, nagsasama-sama tayo upang gunitain ang mga biktima ng Batas Militar: ang mga inaresto, ikinulong, tinorture, pinaslang, at sapilitang iwinala; ang mga pamilyang naiwan; at ang mga pangarap na pinutol ng isang madilim na yugto ng ating kasaysayan.

Sa taong ito, muli namin kayong inaanyayahan. Magsama-sama tayo upang magsindi ng kandila, mag-alay ng alaala, at kilalanin ang mga kuwentong hindi dapat patahimikin.

On the violent dispersal of the protest action at the Luzon Economic Forum in Taguig City which resulted to arbitrary arrests today:

Almost without exception, this wave of mass protest has been met with obstructive, repressive and often violent responses by state authorities. Instead of facilitating the right to protest, this government is going at greater lengths to quash it.

It’s time to stand up and loudly remind those in power of our inalienable right to protest, to express grievances, and to demand change freely, collectively and publicly.

Amnesty International is watching. 🕶

𝐀 𝐃𝐨𝐳𝐞𝐧 𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐠𝐠𝐥𝐞: AIPh UP Baguio on 12th Year of Defending Human Rights✊

On this day, the 2nd of September, 2026, Amnesty International UP Baguio celebrates its 12th year of fighting for human rights and for its defenders, a fight by the people that transcends borders. Throughout the campaigns we have carried out this year, it is always in our spirit to keep the mission clear: create a world where everyone, every human, everywhere is afforded their rights.

The issues that surround human rights happen everywhere, from the streets that we frequent to the places we have never even heard of. We will continue to call for accountability, transparency, and justice for the people, especially in today’s context where the people continue to suffer from the undoing of the state.

In Cordillera, indigenous leaders and human rights defenders have faced red-tagging and surveillance for the mere act of defending their rights. Moreover, in our city, a public-private partnership has almost taken away the Baguio Public Market in the guise of ‘improving its facilities’ when, in fact, the ‘development’ will only benefit large corporations without a care for the small vendors and the community.

Hence, it is a must that we take action. AIPh UP Baguio aims to continue doing everything in our capacity to aid this cause—from remembering the injustice that has been brought to us, to sending out petitions for contemporary issues that need to be addressed, and to going out on the streets together with the masses. We aim to be a space for everyone where we can stand together in solidarity.

From the flicker of city lights in Baguio that travel across the sea and beyond, we have managed to send out not only dozens of signatures, but thousands. None of this could have been achieved without the support of everyone. AIPh UP Baguio stands with everyone to be the flicker of light that prevails even in the darkest of times. We will stand with victims of human rights violations, wherever and whenever.

We thank every effort and support that you have given to us. May everyone feel our heartfelt gratitude.

Cheers to a dozen years of fighting and for the years beyond!💛

Today, 30 August, is International Day for the Victims of Enforced Disappearance and Amnesty International continues to call on governments to:

Investigate and, if there is sufficient admissible evidence, prosecute those suspected of criminal responsibility in fair trials before ordinary civilian courts without recourse to death penalty.

Make enforced disappearance, either committed by state agents or armed non-state actors, criminal under national law and punishable by appropriate penalties which take into account its extreme seriousness.

Implement the International Convention and accept the jurisdiction of the Committee on Enforced Disappearances (CED) to receive and consider communications from or on behalf of victims and other states parties.

Make sure survivors and people who have lost their loved ones receive reparation – this includes compensation, rehabilitation, restitution and a guarantee that it won’t happen again.

Abrogate any amnesty law or any other measure of impunity, like statute of limitations.

Coining the term "spy-tagging" is a deflection tactic being used by the NTF-ELCAC to shift the blame to non-state actors (NSAs). NTF-ELCAC needs to be reminded that under international law, the government is responsible for human rights abuses committed by non-state actors. Their failure to take reasonable steps to prevent or respond to abuses committed by NSAs is in itself a human rights violation. But framing criticisms of the government as communist propaganda while publicly tagging activists as terrorists are equally violations of international human rights laws as well.

Isa sa mga kasamahan ng Artista ti Kordilyera para iti Wayawaya ay iniulat na ilegal na dinakip ng mga pulis at dinala sa Camp Caringal, Eastern Police District Headquarters, at Station 6 sa Quezon City.

Si Juan ay isang artista at manggagawa mula sa Lungsod ng Baguio. Bilang isang alagad ng sining at bahagi ng uring manggagawa, ginagamit niya ang kanyang talento at boses upang ipahayag ang mga karanasan, paninindigan, at adhikain ng mga mamamayan. Sa pamamagitan ng sining, patuloy siyang nakikilahok sa mga usaping panlipunan at naninindigan para sa karapatan, kalayaan, at dignidad ng bawat isa.

Hindi na bago ang ganitong uri ng panggigipit at karahasan mula sa kapulisan. Sa kabila ng paulit-ulit na paglabag sa karapatang pantao, patuloy pa ring nababalewala ang panawagan para sa pananagutan sa mga tiwali at korap na nasa posisyon. Samantala, ang mga maralita at mga mamamayang naninindigan para sa kanilang mga karapatan ay inaaresto, tinatakot, at pinatatahimik.

Hindi krimen ang manindigan. Hindi krimen ang magpahayag.

Palayain ang lahat ng ilegal na inaresto sa SONA2026
Panagutin ang mga lumalabag sa karapatang pantao!
Itigil ang panggigipit at kriminalisasyon sa mga nagpoprotesta!
