The goal of the group is to provide support for each other especially emotional and spiritual support. KATAGUAN DIALYSIS PATIENTS’ ORGANIZATION, INC. is an organization of Kidney Patients and their watchers from Mountain Province which started in January 2015 with 4-5 dialysis patients / watchers at Baguio General Hospital where they met twice to three times a week in the hospital ward and while h
ooked up to primitive dialysis machines for 3 to 4 hours at a time they brainstormed and invited other potential members. They wanted to form an organization that would help them to secure funds and help each patient and his family to finance the very expensive maintenance of the 2 to 3 times a week dialysis lifetime treatment. The first formal meeting of interested members happened on January 31, 2015 at Ki’kan Restaurant, Baden Powell. Pack Road, Baguio City. This meeting was participated by 27 watchers and patients who already decided to elect their officers at that time and discussed other agendas. During the General assembly held on February 22, 2015 at Baden Powell which was attended by 37 patients, watchers and visitors, the organization finally decided on the organization’s name which is KATAGUAN, the registration fee which is P100.00 and monthly dues which is P50.00/ month. It was also during this meeting that the Board of Trustees and Representatives from different dialysis centers were elected. To achieve the main goal of the organization which is to financially help the members for the maintenance of dialysis treatment, the organization is now on the go in searching unlimited activities that could pool some funds. For the few meetings held, members also realized that the organization is not only for financial issues but also to provide patients, families and the common tao with educational resources to improve their lives and give their family members a sense of community. The organization realized the need to establish a secure organization to preserve the visibility and influence of patients and to develop educational and supportive programs to ensure quality of life and quality of health.
