DEAF-LED FSL TEACHING 🤟💙

Please be aware: Basic Filipino Sign Language (FSL) should be taught by Deaf people, especially when teaching the hearing community.

Hearing people can learn FSL, but hearing people should not take the place of Deaf FSL teachers by teaching FSL to other hearing people, especially when qualified Deaf FSL teachers are available.

Let’s respect Deaf people as the language and cultural experts and give Deaf FSL teachers the opportunity to teach their own language and culture.

FSL is not just about making money. It is about language, culture, identity, respect, and inclusion. 🤟💙

Notes:

This episode is open to deaf and hearing individuals who wish to learn FSL. Republic Act No. 11106, or the Filipino Sign Language Act, promotes FSL competency among hearing people and provides for FSL training.

This is a public learning and skills-development session, not formal academic instruction or professional interpreter training. Our instructors have the necessary training, knowledge, and experience in FSL to facilitate the sessions.

We recognize and respect the important role of the Filipino Deaf community in the development and promotion of FSL. The session aims to provide participants with basic FSL knowledge and practical skills and promote inclusive communication.
