COLLECTIVE ACTION OF THE PEOPLE IS THE HIGHEST EXPRESSION OF GENUINE BAYANIHAN! ✊🚍
As oil prices surge alongside intensifying global tensions, the current situation has once again exposed the fragility of our institutions in times of crisis. Its impact cuts across sectors: transport routes disrupted, drivers’ livelihoods strained, workers burdened by rising costs, farmers facing increased production expenses, and commuters forced to bear the daily consequences of an unstable system.
In the face of this, the people have stepped forward. From responses between barangays, drivers and commuters, to relief efforts led by organizations and volunteers, we have seen how collective initiative can cushion the harsh effects of crisis. The youth, in particular, have taken an active role in organizing donation drives, setting up community pantries, and engaging directly with transport workers on the ground.
Yet we recognize that these efforts, no matter how meaningful, can only go so far. They exist because people are forced to fill the gaps left by a system that fails to proactively respond in times of need. Again and again, the responsibility is pushed onto ordinary people, while those in power fall short of delivering timely, concrete, and lasting solutions. This situation cannot continue. Bayanihan, then, should not end with immediate relief. It must take the form of collective action.
Kasiyana–Tulong Kabataan calls on its partner organizations, supporters, and the broader Baguio–Benguet community to stand alongside transport workers and other affected sectors in advancing their calls. This May 1, in the commemoration of International Workers’ Day, let us unite in collective action to demand concrete, lasting solutions.
The highest form of bayanihan is standing together to transform the conditions that make survival of the people a daily struggle.
