๐๐๐๐๐ง๐ | Oriana Holds Major Roles in Kontra-Korap Cup and Habitat Debate Open
The University of the Cordilleras Speech and Debate Society proudly congratulates its member, ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ผ ๐ข๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฎ ๐๐๐, for his participation and leadership in the ๐๐ผ๐ป๐๐ฟ๐ฎ-๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฝ ๐๐๐ฝ, organized by Kamalig Debate Tournaments and Talaksik Debates, held online on September 27โ28, 2025.
โ ๏ธ Mario Oriana III served as a ๐๐ฒ๐ฝ๐๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฒ๐ณ ๐๐ฑ๐ท๐๐ฑ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐ผ๐ฟ, marking the first time a member of the organization has been part of a tournamentโs core adjudication panel. Along with his co-CAP, he was responsible for crafting motions, facilitating judge allocations, and ensuring high-quality adjudication throughout the competition. Oriana helped facilitate more than 40 rooms, accommodating over 160 teams and more than 640 participants. KKC serves as one of the biggest Philippine tournaments in recent times.
โ ๏ธ He also volunteered as part of the ๐ข๐ฟ๐ด๐ฎ๐ป๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ผ๐บ๐บ๐ถ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฒ, where he spearheaded all creative work, contributing significantly to the branding, materials, and overall visual identity of the tournament.
โน๏ธ ๐๐๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐๐ | The Kontra-Korap Cup was not only a debate competition but a unified call to end impunity, social injustice, and corruptionโissues brought further into focus by the recent unveiling of massive government budget misuse and the blatant stealing of public funds by actors across multiple government agencies.
Beyond the competitive rounds, the tournament mobilized a strong collective stand against corruption, gathering 350+ individual signatures and endorsements from 35+ organizations through a united statement demanding accountability and decisive action. The Kontra-Korap Cup also invited speakers with extensive backgrounds to lead deeper discussions, creating spaces that explored the complex nuances of corruption. These talks focused on reframing debate as a form of resistance, examining how the state weaponizes the law and is complicit in police brutality, and revisiting the historical trajectory of the Philippine debate circuit to better contextualize todayโs systemic challenges.

The Society also congratulates Oriana for representing the university at the ๐๐ฎ๐ฏ๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐๐ฒ ๐ข๐ฝ๐ฒ๐ป, organized by TalakSIk Debates and held online from November 29โ30, 2025. The Habitat Debate Open is another advocacy-centered tournament, this time focusing on animal welfare as its core theme.
โ ๏ธ Oriana once again served as a ๐๐ฒ๐ฝ๐๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฒ๐ณ ๐๐ฑ๐ท๐๐ฑ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐ผ๐ฟ, taking part in crafting motions and guiding adjudication throughout the tournament. Oriana helped facilitate more than 25 rooms with more than 250 participants.
โ ๏ธ He also held the role of ๐๐ฒ๐ฝ๐๐๐ ๐ง๐ผ๐๐ฟ๐ป๐ฎ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐๐ถ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ผ๐ฟ, handling logistics before, during, and after the tournament. He additionally oversaw all creative work, ensuring that event materials, announcements, and overall presentation were cohesive and visually engaging.
โน๏ธ ๐๐๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐๐ข | The Habitat Debate Open was a competition dedicated to raising funds for the Philippine Animal Rescue Team, combining advocacy with passion in debate. The tournament invited a professional, Gregg Yan, to deliver a talk titled โItโs Not Just Climate Change: The Bigger Picture of Conservation,โ which explored the nuances of endangered species and the urgent need to protect them.
Beyond competitive debating, the event also amplified visibility for critically endangered animals through online information-sharing initiatives, all while ensuring that debate remained accessible and of high quality for participants.

Through these roles, Oriana continues to bring pride to UC SPADES and the University of the Cordilleras by demonstrating leadership, service, and dedication to furthering meaningful, advocacy-based discourse in the debate community.
