Meet the adjudicators of the 3rd Sinnungbat Cup!

With their experience and perspectives, our judges are here to do more than decide who wins. They will challenge you to think critically, sharpen your arguments, and see beyond what you already know.

To our probationary members, don't let the thought of being judged intimidate you. This is your chance to learn, make mistakes, and grow. Every question is an opportunity to reflect, every piece of feedback a chance to improve, and every round a step toward becoming a better debater.

So take a deep breath, trust your preparation, and let your ideas shine. The people in the room aren't just here to hear you speak. They're here to help you become better at it.

𝟯𝗿𝗱 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗯𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝘂𝗽 | Message from Last Year's Champions!

Still feeling nervous about stepping up to the podium? Looking for some inspiration before entering the arena? Hear it from those who have stood where you are about to stand!

Our previous champions, 𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗮 𝗪𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗻 and 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗞𝗼𝗻𝗿𝗮𝗱 𝗤𝘂𝗶𝘇𝗼𝗻, have a few words to share with you. Their journeys may have looked different, but both have something valuable to remind us of.

Nicolea shares what it's like to enter a room thinking you're ready, only to be humbled, challenged, and pushed to grow. James, on the other hand, came in with experience in other arenas, but even he was new to British Parliamentary debate. Because even when you have experience in law school and beyond, there's always something new to learn when you step into a different kind of arena!

Remember, 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝘀𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁.

Sinnungbat Cup is more than just a competition. It's a place to make mistakes, learn from them, and discover what you're capable of. Here, you have judges who will challenge you, fellow debaters who will sharpen your thinking, and a community that wants to see you grow.

𝗔𝗗𝗝𝗨𝗗𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 | UC Contingent Named 3rd Best Adj at South Asia Open

The University of the Cordilleras Speech and Debate Society proudly congratulates its member, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼 𝗔. 𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗜𝗜𝗜 (Forensic Science 2), for his outstanding performance at the South Asia Open, an international British Parliamentary debate tournament held online October 10–11, 2026, via Zoom and Discord and hosted by Debate on Demand.

♠️ Oriana chaired five of the tournament's nine round, ultimately serving as an 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗝𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲. He also served as a 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗝𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲. With over 60 adjudicators across 16 rooms, he was named 𝟯𝗿𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗝𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲.

Oriana participated as a 𝗦𝘂𝗯𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗱𝗷𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿, earning a sponsored opportunity to adjudicate at the international tournament based on his credentials and judging experience. This achievement reflects his continued growth in adjudication and his capacity to contribute to competitive debate spaces beyond the university.

The organization celebrates this milestone and remains committed to developing UCians who contribute to the debate community through excellence in both competition and adjudication.

ℹ️ 𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗦𝗔𝗢 | The South Asia Open is an international British Parliamentary debate tournament hosted by Debate on Demand, bringing together teams and adjudicators from across Asia, especially South Asia. Beyond competition, the tournament also serves as a fundraiser supporting aspiring debaters.

𝗔𝗗𝗝𝗨𝗗𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 | Ritos Clinches His First Judge Award at Pangaturog Novice BP

The University of the Cordilleras Speech and Debate Society proudly congratulates its member, 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗹 𝗚. 𝗥𝗶𝘁𝗼𝘀 (Behavioral Science 3), for his achievement at Pangaturog Novice BP, held online via Discord from October 10–11, 2026, and hosted by Oragon Debates. The tournament gathered 42 teams from 23 institutions and featured 24 adjudicators.

♠️ Ritos chaired all preliminary rounds and advanced to serve as an 𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗝𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲, ultimately earning 𝟯𝗿𝗱 𝗕𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗝𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲. This marks his first-ever judging award, a significant milestone in his development as an adjudicator.

The organization also recognizes Ritos' participation as an 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗝𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲, reflecting the trust placed in his adjudication skills and his growing contribution to the debate circuit.

UC SPADES celebrates this achievement and remains committed to providing opportunities for its members to strengthen their skills, gain experience, and contribute meaningfully to the wider debate community.

Every great debater starts somewhere. Every champion was once a novice, learning to build arguments, find their footing, and speak with conviction. And every year, Sinnungbat Cup reminds us that growth begins when we dare to step into the arena.

This October 21–22, the flames return for the third iteration of the Sinnungbat Cup, the intra-organizational novice debate cup of the University of the Cordilleras Speech and Debate Society. With a new batch of recruits, this year's Sinnungbat Cup continues its mission of nurturing new voices and preparing our members for the world beyond their first debate round.

More than a competition, Sinnungbat Cup is where novice debaters discover their potential and learn that there is always room to grow. Every speech and every clash is another step toward becoming a better debater.

The arena awaits. Let the flames rise, and let the voices of our newest debaters be heard.

A lot of growth in SPADES happens behind the scenes. It is in the appreciation and concern after a tiring event, the encouragement after a loss, the suggestions that help us work through administrative challenges, and the constant reminders to keep moving forward.

We deeply appreciate that despite your own responsibilities in teaching and in your personal lives, you continue to make time for SPADES and actively support us in every way you can. Your guidance has helped us navigate not only the challenges we face as an organization, but also the many lessons that come with leading, serving, and growing together.

Thank you for being our guiding hands, for believing in our vision, and for being there through both our wins and our setbacks. Much of what SPADES has grown into is also a reflection of the time, patience, and support you have given us behind the scenes.

𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗨𝗟𝗧𝗦 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗢𝗨𝗧 | UC SPADES Annual Recruitment 2026 ♠️

“Ohana means family, and family means nobody debates alone!" 🌺

After completing all three phases of the UC SPADES Annual Recruitment Process, a new batch of aspiring speakers and debaters has officially found their place in our ohana, joining the University of the Cordilleras Speech and Debate Society as 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀! 🗣️♠️

But joining the ohana is only the beginning. For the next two semesters, or six months, our probationary members will undergo training, assessment, and immersion in the Society as they develop their skills, take on new challenges, and become part of the SPADES community.

At the end of the probationary period, their performance will be evaluated for regular membership in the Society.
