「 NEWS 」 Rotaract and Red Cross Mobilize Multi-service Outreach to Irisan

BAGUIO CITY, Benguet — The Rotaract Club of Baguio Saint Louis University - School of Medicine (RACB SLU - SOM), in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Baguio and the Philippine Red Cross Baguio City Chapter, successfully conducted another Irisan Bayanihan program on August 1, 2026.

Anchored on this year’s Rotaract theme, “Create Lasting Impact,” the community outreach catered to residents of Barangay Irisan through a free medical mission, a blood donation drive, and an interactive hygiene workshop on proper handwashing and toothbrushing for children. This also marks as the club’s kick-off event for the Rotary year 2026-2027.

Medical consultations were made possible through the dedicated service of Rotarian doctors: Dr. Alfredo Laygo, Dr. Cornelio Naguit Jr., Dr. Benito Sunga, and Dr. Dionisio Claridad. The overall initiative was supervised by Rotary Club of Baguio headed by President Reymund Barrios.

When asked about the preparation and ex*****on of the event, Club President Chiara Gatmaitan honestly shared the difficulty in the process especially in its approval. “Luckily, RACB SLU-SOM have dedicated officers who were willing to work for it and a very supportive mother club through the Rotary Club of Baguio”, Gatmaitan added. In terms of ex*****on, she emphasized how the event had opened an angle to best improve moving forward with more projects in mind.

That’s right! The Rotaract Club of Baguio Saint Louis University - School of Medicine in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross Baguio City Chapter is once again coming to 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐲 𝐈𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐧, 𝐁𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐢𝐨 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐁𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐭 on 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟏, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 to continue creating a lasting impact!

Irisan Bayanihan is a program launched in 2025 that focuses on serving the community through various initiatives addressing the community’s needs on a single go! This time around, the program shall conduct a 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐇𝐲𝐠𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 for kids.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of 𝐃𝐫. 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐲 𝐀. 𝐃𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐲, Dean of the Saint Louis University School of Medicine (SLU SOM), whose distinguished leadership strengthened medical education and whose profound commitment to our students, faculty, and community touched so many. More than an exceptional leader, he was a 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿, a 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, and a 𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

Our thoughts and prayers of strength are with Dr. John’s family, loved ones, and all who had the opportunity to know him. May they find comfort in the memories of Dr. John’s gracious life.

Our club fostered a culture of gratitude and kindness through our Valentine’s project, Hearts On Call, by distributing “Sweet Rx in a Bag” to school staff and advisers. Each kit, containing mini dried flowers, heart bag charms, cookies, and personalized letters, was thoughtfully prepared and shared to express appreciation and strengthen relationships within our community. This simple act promoted positivity, connection, and emotional well-being. Spread kindness, join us in creating moments that build harmony and uplift others.
