What do coconut oil, global chemical trade, and a nationally awarded science textbook have in common? One ChE who refused to think small. 🥥

We're opening the 𝐏 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐏 — 𝐏𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 — and our final day's first plenary speaker is someone who has built empires out of a chemical engineering degree.

𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐫. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐨 𝐀𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨 𝐑𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬 is the President of HanCole Asia Pacific, a global supplier of oils, fats, oleochemicals, surfactants, and cosmetic raw materials operating across the Philippines and Singapore. He chairs the United Coconut Associations of the Philippines (UCAP) — the umbrella organization of all coconut producers in the country — and leads the Virgin Coconut Oil Producers and Manufacturers Association (VCOP). In short, he shapes the direction of entire Philippine industries.

And when he's not doing that? He's writing STEM textbooks used in classrooms nationwide — earning the 2023 Book of the Year Award from the Samahan ng Mga Manunulat na Pilipino for Earth and Life Science. Because for Engr. Marco, pioneering the future of chemical industries also means building the next generation of engineers who will lead it.

This is what a ChE degree from De La Salle University looks like, taken to its fullest potential.
