🌿 Climate and JET Education Reaches Ati Indigenous Youth in Sitio Marikudo

Last August 29, 2026, a rollout on Climate Education and Just Energy Transition (JET) was conducted at Sitio Marikudo, Barangay Kamangkamang, Municipality of Isabela, Negros Occidental, engaging indigenous youth from the Ati Tribe in meaningful conversations about the environment, climate change, and the future of sustainable communities.

The activity created a space for the young members of the Ati community to learn and engage with issues that directly affect their communities. Climate change and the transition toward sustainable energy are conversations that must reach every sector, especially communities whose voices are often left out of larger discussions.

The rollout emphasized the importance of accessible climate education and inclusive participation. Building a sustainable future requires communities to be informed, empowered, and recognized as part of the collective action needed to address the climate crisis.

Through initiatives like this, climate education reaches beyond traditional spaces and into communities—ensuring that indigenous youth are included in shaping conversations and actions for a more sustainable and equitable future.

(NYLI Inc.), with the strong support of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office - Negros Occidental (PSWDO) and the Provincial Youth Development Council - Negros Occidental (PYDO).

Through Project YES, we aim to equip young people in Negros Occidental with employability and financial literacy skills while strengthening their rights-seeking behavior, helping them become more prepared, informed, and empowered to pursue meaningful employment opportunities.

NEGROS ISLAND REGION — August 20, 2026. Five officers of the Provincial Federation of the Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP) – Negros Occidental have been elected to key positions in the newly organized PYAP Negros Island Region (NIR) Federation, marking another milestone for youth leadership and representation in the region.

The election, held on August 20, 2026, brought together youth leaders from across Negros Island to establish a regional leadership that will strengthen coordination, representation, and collaboration among PYAP chapters throughout the region.

Representing Negros Occidental, the following provincial federation officers were elected:

Renz Roland Ejes of Bago City — Regional Federation President
Riza Jugado of Talisay City — Regional Federation Secretary
Marlo Villanueva of Victorias City — Regional Federation Auditor
Trina Anne Larawan of Sagay City — Regional Federation Public Relations Officer for Negros Occidental
Mark Andre Gamboa of the Municipality of Moises Padilla — Regional Federation Business Manager for Negros Occidental

Their election reflects the growing involvement and confidence placed in Negros Occidental's youth leaders to contribute to the broader youth development agenda of the Negros Island Region.

As a youth organization dedicated to empowering young people, PYAP plays an important role in creating spaces where youth can participate meaningfully in community development, leadership, volunteerism, and social action. The establishment of a regional federation provides an avenue to bring these efforts closer together, strengthen coordination among provincial federations, and ensure that the voices and experiences of young people from different communities are represented at the regional level.

For the five newly elected officers, the responsibility goes beyond holding positions. Their mandate is to build stronger connections among PYAP youth leaders across Negros Island, promote inclusive youth participation, support local chapters, and help advance programs that respond to the needs and aspirations of young people.

Their election is also a proud moment for the PYAP Negros Occidental Provincial Federation, as five of its leaders take on regional responsibilities while continuing to carry with them the experiences and lessons gained from working with young people in their respective cities and municipality.

With Negros Occidental now strongly represented in the regional leadership, the province looks forward to greater collaboration across Negros Island and to a PYAP that is more connected, more participatory, and more responsive to the young people it serves.

A total of 60 young interns from 17 local government units (LGUs) across Negros Occidental received their Government Internship Program (GIP) stipends yesterday at the Social Hall of the Negros Occidental Provincial Capitol, following their 30-day internship in their respective LGUs.

The stipend payout was facilitated by the DSWD Negros Island Region (NIR), with the support of the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental under the leadership of Governor Eugenio Jose V. Lacson.

The beneficiaries are young people from LGUs with established Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines (PYAP) Federations, who were given the opportunity to gain firsthand experience in the workplace and contribute to local government services throughout their 30-day engagement.

Through the GIP, young people are provided with opportunities to develop workplace skills, gain practical experience, strengthen their confidence, and understand the value of public service. The program also aims to help prepare young beneficiaries for future employment by exposing them to actual work environments and responsibilities.

For the 60 interns, the 30-day experience goes beyond completing a temporary assignment. It represents 30 days of learning, serving, building skills, and discovering their potential as young people capable of contributing to their communities.

The initiative underscores the continuing commitment of DSWD NIR and the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental, under Governor B**g Lacson, to support programs that empower young Negrenses and provide them with meaningful pathways toward employment, participation, and community development.
