βΌοΈBACK TO BACK CHAMPIONβΌοΈ
This Gulayan Project first began in 2022 when our purok was recognized as the Best in Gulayan sa Purok under the leadership of our Purok President, Anthony Onting, together with the entire Purok Nipa Council. They worked hand in hand to develop and bring the gulayan to life from once a rice field land. It became one of the most memorable experiences in our purok because it brought every member of the community closer together, uniting everyone, building camaraderie, and strengthening our love for our purok. We all shared one goal: to become champions, and we did!
This year, the responsibility of nurturing the land was passed on to the youth, a generation that had barely held a watering can, much less experienced farming. Still, we accepted the challenge wholeheartedly.
A 40 to 50 areas of land covered in grass was entrusted to us. Day by day, the youth officers worked tirelessly together to clear the land and prepare it for planting. We created our own strategy, maximized our available resources, and leaned on the strong camaraderie within the community. It was never just the youth working alone, it was a collective effort of the entire purok and council.
The journey was far from easy. Everything was a process of trial and error, which is why not all our plants grew equally. We experienced setbacks and unsuccessful growth, but we never lost hope. We prayed, persevered, and continued planting with prayer and determination.
Along the way, we also learned how to handle mistakes, the importance of good communication, teamwork, patience, and care. This garden was far from perfect, but behind every flaw was a beautiful story of unity, hard work, and relationships formed within the youth and the community. It was a mixture of chaos and beautiful connections that brought all of us even closer together.
More than the awards and recognition, this project truly opened the minds and hearts of the youth about the importance of farming. It taught us how difficult and challenging the work of farmers really is, and because of this, we learned to deeply respect and appreciate all the farmers who work tirelessly to provide food for our communities every single day.
To everyone who helped us transform this garden into one of the most beautiful achievements of our youth officers so far, thank you so much.
To our ever supportive Purok President, Tita Nona, Tito Richard, Tita Selda, and to all our titos, titas, manangs, and manongs who shared their donations, time, and valuable advice on how we could better nurture our garden, thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Thank you so much to SK Busay for the opportunity!
Cheers to our first hoorah this year, and stay tuned because there is so much more to come!
