Most of us overlook the alienation of the working, impoverished people and the competition being curated for their needs because of how effectively the people in power orchestrate the system. In poverty, the ruling class always plays a part.

READ: Think tank NGO Ibon Foundation releases a comparison chart between the minimum and family living wage as of November 2024.

Last September, there was a P21-P75 increase in the minimum wage here in CALABARZON. However, seeing the numbers, it is far from the sustainable living wage that every Filipino family deserves.

As part of our exploration in regards to poverty's origin, we now delve into the reason #2, which highlights how poverty is chained to a cycle of limited opportunities and social inequality. It seems as if it is a continuous wheel that no one in power wants to break.

From unemployment, education, gender, or social classes, there is undoubtedly an abundance of inequality. As the Goal #1 in the SDGs, this also coincides with other goals, further strengthening the notion that poverty is a very vast, nuanced, and complex problem that we need to act on.

We start with the root of it: the centralized power of the governance, that branches out into a myriad of malpractices such as state corruption, dynastic system, and bastardization of democracy. All of which contributes to proliferating poverty.
