VERSE 1
Oh, fathers, hold the helm steady,
Steer the house firm and ready.
Not by hands, but your knees,
You’re the captain, stay in the course.

This is what fathers do.

VERSE 2
Though the storm rages, squall winds rise,
Thank the Lord in both high and lows.
Don’t guess—there's a bright light ahead.
Remember Jesus, who calms the storm.

This is what fathers do.

VERSE 3
And when a child falls away, fear not.
The anchor is faithful and won't sweep them away,
They need you even if they say they don't.
Remember, love conquers a multitude of sins.

BRIDGE:
And when she drifts from where she should stay,
Pull her closer and don’t let go.
No, don't let go.

This is what husbands do.

CHORUS
Hold the helm—this is your sacred call,
Hold the helm, this is a father’s call.
This is what fathers do.
This is what fathers do.

VERSE 4
When weakness haunts you, don’t listen,
Don’t look, ponder, or consider.
But when you slip and let it all go,
Pick the pieces and run back to the door.

Remember, you are a child too.

CHORUS
Hold the helm—this is your sacred call,
Hold the helm, this is a father’s call.
This is what fathers do.
This is what fathers do.

A father’s calling: hold the helm, love wife and children, and guide them back when they fall—love covers a multitude of sins. Original lyrics by John15.Rock...
