𝗖𝗠𝗢 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘 | 𝗛𝘂𝗴𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗦 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

The Confraternity of Augustinian Recollect Altar Servers (CARAS) of the Oratory of St. Nicholas of Tolentine, UNO-Recoletos, Inc. successfully held its first-ever formation camp, Hugpong CARAS Camp 2026, last May 9–10, 2026 at the Santa Monica Retreat House of the university.

The two-day camp became a meaningful opportunity for CARAS members to deepen their spiritual formation and strengthen their commitment as altar servers and sacristans. Through a series of engaging discussions and reflective activities, participants immersed themselves in topics centered on the Eucharist, Lectio Divina, and the Sacred Liturgy.

The staff of the Campus Ministry Office generously served as Facilitators and Speakers throughout the formation sessions, while Sir Je Perete, CARAS Adviser, led the team-building activities that fostered camaraderie, unity, and fellowship among the participants.

More than a camp, Hugpong became a moment of encounter, an avenue to grow in faith, build lasting friendships, and rediscover the beauty of serving in the Lord’s ministry.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Fr. Ferdinand V. Fornilos, OAR, our Spiritual Director, for his trust, guidance, and unwavering support in making this activity possible. Our sincere thanks also go to the CMO Staff for their dedication in facilitating the camp, and to the parents whose love and support continue to inspire our ministry.

The camp culminated in the celebration of the Holy Eucharist at the Oratory of St. Nicholas of Tolentine, presided over by Rev. Fr. Leonardo Pauligue, OAR. During the Mass, CARAS members faithfully served as choir members, lectors, and altar servers, a beautiful testament to their commitment and devotion to the ministry.

May this first Hugpong CARAS Camp be the beginning of many more opportunities to gather, learn, serve, and grow together as one community in Christ.

THE CONVERSION OF OUR HOLY FATHER AUGUSTINE
April 24 | Feast in the Augustinian Order

The Augustinian order celebrates today the Feast of the Conversion of Our Holy Father and commemorates his baptism to the Catholic Church.

Some time in the year 386, Augustine and his friend Alypius were spending time in Milan. While outdoors, Augustine heard the voice of a child singing a song, the words of which were, "Pick it up and read it. Pick it up and read it." He thought at first that the song was related to some kind of children's game, but could not remember ever having heard such a song before.

Then, realizing that this song might be a command from God to open and read the Scriptures, he located a Bible, picked it up, opened it and read the first passage he saw. It was from the Letter of Paul to the Romans. Augustine read:
Not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual excess and lust, not in quarreling and jealousy. Rather, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the desires of the flesh. --Romans 13: 13-14

Reading this scripture, Augustine felt as if his heart were flooded with light. He turned totally from his life of sin. He was Baptized by Saint Ambrose during the Easter Vigil April 24, 387. His friend Alypius and his son Adeodatus were Baptized at the same time.

𝐂𝐌𝐎 𝐎𝐁𝐈𝐓𝐔𝐀𝐑𝐘

With deep sorrow, we mourn the passing of 𝙁𝙧. William Emilito "𝙒𝙞𝙣𝙜" C. Villaflor, OAR, our former House Prior and Vice President for Finance. We are grateful for his dedicated service, leadership, and the witness of his life within our community.

We humbly ask everyone to include in our daily Masses the intention for the eternal repose of Fray Villaflor. May he find peace and rest in the loving embrace of our Risen Lord.
