It was a profound privilege to work alongside Kuya Noel. His dedication to inclusive conservation, watershed protection, and environmental stewardship leaves an indelible mark on our organization and the environments we mutually sought to protect. His wisdom and kindness will be deeply missed.

Thank you for your significant contributions to the conservation of the bird life and their habitats in the Philippines. Our deepest condolences.

We called him โ€œKuya Noโ€, and so did many others - staff, volunteers, members, and communities - people he embraced and inspired for over 30 years.

From ridge to reef, the footprints of Sir. Noel A. Resurreccion spanned the country. From the early 1990s, he worked in Mt. Isarog, Mt. Hilong-hilong, Mt. Irid-Angelo, Mt. Mingan, the Central Panay Mountains, Naujan Lake, Mt. Siburan, Sablayan, Lanuza Bay, Apo Reef, and many moreโ€”reaching communities across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

He was not just our colleague; he was our wisdom, our joy, and our teacher. We grieve this immense loss alongside his family, and we honor his memory by carrying his love for nature and people forward.

The impact of his life's work is rooted deeply in the earth and in our hearts, and it will never be forgotten. May his family find comfort in knowing how fiercely he was loved. With our deepest sympathies and lifelong gratitude.

We would like to call on friends, family, Haribon staff, members, and community partners whose lives have been touched by Kuya No - submit your photos and/or videos of him so we can create a simple tribute from all of us.

For those who want to take a step further - record a landscape video of yourself answering the following:

โญHow did you meet Kuya Noel?
โญWhat was your most vivid memory of him?
โญHow has he influenced you in your work or life?

The Institute of Biology is proud to share a major milestone in plant conservation, co-authored by faculty member, Dr. Erika Marie A. Bascos, and teaching fellow, Alysa Estopace! In collaboration with an international team, their recently published paper details a historic breakthrough: the first successful cultivation of Rafflesia in the Western Hemisphere. Known as the "panda of the plant world," this rare endoparasite produces the largest flowers on Earth but spends most of its life completely hidden inside its host vine, making propagation exceptionally difficult. Even more meaningful, the propagated material originated from Rafflesia speciosa populations in Miagao, Iloilo, Philippines. This achievement marks a massive step forward for safeguarding our endemic biodiversity.

Science. Action for sustainable future.

At the 2026 DOST-NAST Visayas Regional Scientific Meeting, local innovations took the spotlight under the theme "UN SDGs: Science, Technology, and Innovation for Sustainable Development."

Shoutout to the three incredible presentations representing Negros:

๐ŸŒด PRRCFI President Gerry Ledesma shared their experience on saving the pristine reefs and tropical beach forest of Danjugan Island.

๐Ÿฌ Dr. Mark de la Paz of USLS Bacolod on studying and protecting our local Irrawaddy Dolphins.

๐Ÿ“Š Lisa Paguntalan-Marte of PhilBio shared the organizations' experience on turning raw ecological data into real conservation breakthroughs.

Our local scientists and advocates are proving that when science meets passion, we secure a future for our ecosystems. So proud of the Negros conservation community! ๐Ÿ’š

Gawahon Ecopark - Local communities got to experience bird counts and habitat assessment on site. While almost everyone enjoyed the morning field work, a few were lucky enough to have their spark bird and plant. We all had a good walk with nature and are now looking forward to the actual count tomorrow.

This project is an initiative of BeeGLAD and VISFA in partnership with LGU Victorias City and PhilBio. This activity is funded by the PCP4NbS Project of Forest Foundation Philippines.

Gawahon Ecopark is part of the Northern Negros Natural Park. As part of the project initiative of BeeGLAD and VISFA in partnership with LGU Victorias City and PhilBio, a community-based bio-monitoring training was conducted for the dry season. This activity is funded by the PCP4NbS Project of Forest Foundation Philippines.

Here are some of the first day field photos from the training.
