Gender sensitivity plays a crucial role in waste management and community action. Women, men, and marginalized groups often experience environmental impacts in different ways. Recognizing and addressing these differences is essential to developing more inclusive, effective, and equitable policies, and thus, Men for Equality- Negros Occidental has embraced the “Men for Equality, Men for Environment” Project.

The eco-friendly products created by the scholars and volunteers not only promoted sustainability but also provided them with an additional source of income—transforming materials commonly regarded as “trash” into valuable goods.

Leis are given as symbols of affection, celebration, honor, or greeting—especially during special events. But what happens to them afterward?

With a desire to help reduce waste, our team decided to incorporate leis into our materials for the Prototyping and Designing sessions, along with used clothing donated by our friends. It’s an exciting initiative as we prepare for our “Trashion” Show for the Environment.

This is part of our “Men for Equality, Men for Environment” Project by the Men for Equality- Negros Occidental, as funded by the Foundation for the Philippine Environment and assisted by Sowing Legacy Movement, Inc.

The more, the merrier, right?

Our “Men for Equality, Men for the Environment” volunteers joined in the “Tree Planting and Tree Growing Series” of Save Negros Forests 2.0, organized by the I Am A Legacy, mentored by Sowing Legacy Movement, Inc. and YGOAL, Inc., and funded by the Foundation for the Philippine Environment.

Tree planting protects biodiversity by supporting ecosystems, mitigating climate change, conserving water and soil, and providing habitats and food for a wide variety of species. We’ll definitely return to check on what we’ve planted and plant even more!

Through the “Men for Equality, Men for Environment,” Education Series, we were able to support the transportation of the delegates from the Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines-Bacolod City (PYAP) who joined in the Gender and Development Training of Trainers by the Negros Women for Tomorrow Foundation and 3Zero Club last January 24-25, and February 1, 2025.

Dustin Veridiano, Dr. Richelle Verdeprado Mangga, and Charles Mangga were among the invited speakers. Aside from the usual talk, participants were given time to discuss their assigned topics and to engage in the activities conducted by their fellow participants. It is hoped that from the said training, more young leaders will embrace advocacy for gender equality, women empowerment, and environmental protection.

Join us at the transformative “Men for Equality Camp!” Our mission is to reshape the concept of masculinity and tackle how traditional notions of manhood contribute to women's exploitation.

We aim to foster a new standard of masculinity that stands firmly against the exploitation of women, children, and the environment. By participating, you'll help challenge harmful behaviors and support a culture of respect and equality.

This camp is open to young men aged 16 to 22 who reside in Negros Occidental. Ready to make a difference? Click the link https://bit.ly/MenForEq to apply and be part of this vital movement.
