HOPE CAME KNOCKING: An unexpected blessing at the Open Day Center

In recent days, things have been especially overwhelming at the Open Day Center. In the midst of uncertainty and challenges that feel bigger than us, the team gathered with the children for a simple community prayer to pause, reflect, and lift up our fears and hopes together.

Not long after, something unexpected happened. A van arrived at the center, carrying bags of food donations. The timing could not have been more perfect.
The children watched in amazement, witnessing an answered prayer unfolding right before them. It was a quiet yet powerful moment, one that reminded all of us of the meaning of this Lenten season: to trust, to reflect, and to hold on to hope.

Even if the challenges are not yet fully overcome, this moment reminded us that grace will always find its way.

Our gratitude to Bacolod City DSSD for the donation. The blessings you have shared could not have come at a better time. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

WAY OF LIFE: Residents share a day at the Farm with Japanese guests

Bacolod Tay Tung High School returned to the FAITH Farm, this time with a group of Japanese students organized by Grow Forward JP Inc. in partnership with NPO REGIONAL EDUCATION SUPPORT (Japan Org), for a day of immersion into farm life.

Students took part in a hands-on educational tour, feeding chickens, harvesting eggs, and even spending time with our ducks. The visit continued with a simple but meaningful exchange, as our residents shared their livelihood skills, teaching guests how to make rugs and bracelets.

It was a day of learning, sharing, and connection across cultures, made even more special by the joy and curiosity everyone brought with them.

WHEN SMILES MEET AGAIN: Grade 4 Bacolod Tay Tung High School visits the Virlanie FAITH Farm

Last January 23, Virlanie FAITH was honored to be chosen as the beneficiary of Bacolod Tay Tung High School’s Grade 4 outreach program, an experience we shared in a previous post. On March 18 and 19, the same group of students visited the FAITH Farm to see where their new friends live.

The two days were full of easy laughter and familiar faces, as students and residents picked up right where they left off, playing games, sharing presentations, and enjoying a relaxed picnic on the Farm grounds.

Our Farm residents were truly happy to see them again, and by the end of the visit, there were a few teary eyes, a quiet sign of how meaningful those connections had become.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Bacolod Tay Tung High School for their generous donation, and most especially for the memories they created with our residents, moments that will surely warm their hearts. We hope to welcome you again at the Farm soon!

BLESSINGS ABOUND: The Blessing of Balay Pag-Uswag

On March 11, 2026, Balay Pag-Uswag, Virlanie FAITH's new facilty was formally blessed in a meaningful ceremony officiated by Fr. Amit Sagar Tirkey. The event was attended by the Virlanie FAITH staff, together with our Founder and President, Sir Dominique Lemay, and the Board of Balay Dalangpan sg Kabataan- our valued partners for this project. This milestone marks a beautiful beginning as we open this safe space for children to rest, recover, and begin their journey toward healing.

Our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made this day special. We thank our beneficiaries and guests for gracing the occasion, Mr. Steinar Johansen for helping prepare the sumptuous food, Tatay Caloy and volunteer Lucas for decorating the house, the Virlanie FAITH staff for putting it all together, and to Fr. Tirkey for officiating the blessing.

May this house be continually blessed not only as a place of refuge but as a source of peace and healing, so that every life it touches will also become a blessing to others.

--Balay Pag-Uswag is a short-term halfway home for urgent cases handled by the Virlanie FAITH Open Day Center. It is not a residential shelter, but a temporary space where children in street situations can rest, stabilize, and begin healing. Through structured routines and guided support, Balay provides a safe environment for focused interventions and recovery.--

BALAY PAG-USWAG: A Place for Healing

Imagine living in constant fight-or-flight mode, never fully at rest, always alert, always bracing for danger. For many children in street situations, this is daily life.

For years, through the Virlanie FAITH Open Day Center, we have walked closely with these children and listened to the harrowing realities they face. While our case management interventions are always guided by the child’s best interest, there are severe cases where healing cannot fully begin unless the child is first removed, even temporarily, from the environment that keeps them in survival mode.

Balay Pag-Uswag was once only a dream, something we deeply hoped for but quietly felt was beyond reach given our modest resources. We often wished we could do more in the most urgent cases, yet the reality of our limitations weighed heavily on us.

As fate would have it, the answer came through Balay Dalangpan sg Kabataan Foundation, who partnered with us to turn this vision into reality.

Balay Pag-Uswag is not a residential shelter. Rather, it is a halfway home, a short-term and temporary space where urgent cases may be referred so children can safely rest, stabilize, and begin processing their experiences.

While staying at Balay, children engage in simple household routines alongside a Home Parent. These tasks are not merely for upkeep. They help restore rhythm, dignity, and emotional grounding through meaningful daily activity.

Balay Pag-Uswag exists to give children something many of them have never truly had: a pause from survival and the space to begin healing so they could move forward in their lives.

EDSA IN MIND TODAY: Virlanie FAITH commemorates EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary

To commemorate the EDSA People Power Anniversary, our Open Day Center beneficiaries gathered for a short learning session led by our Executive Director, Adelle Lemay, who shared the importance and meaning of this historic event.

The talk helped our youth better understand and appreciate the values of freedom, unity, and active citizenship . Moments like this remind us that beyond daily programs, we also create a safe space for discussion, introspection, and awareness of our culture and history.

AS FATE (FAITH) WOULD HAVE IT: Virlanie FAITH partners with Balay Dalangpan sg Kabataan Foundation for new home.

As we have shared before, the Open Day Center (ODC) operates only during daytime. While we have provided the best interventions in our capacity, including case management, medical support, education and skills training, as well as daily meals, we do recognize the limitations of this setup.

For children in street situations, daytime support is sometimes not enough. There are cases when, for their safety and overall wellbeing, they need to be removed from their environment and given a stable place to stay. Many of the children who frequent the ODC have openly shared their desire to leave the streets and move into a place that is safe, secure, and consistent.

For the past four years, we have remained faithful to our mission of providing basic needs, education, training, and personalized support to each beneficiary. Still, we have always known that we could do more. We could offer them not just services and referrals, but a home.

And now, as fate, (or FAITH) would have it, that dream is becoming a reality.

Balay Dalangpan sg Kabataan Foundation, led by Ms. Judith Mahinay, has partnered with Virlanie FAITH to launch a new program called Balay Pag-Uswag (House for Becoming), a halfway home for children and youth in street situations. It will be a safe space where they can begin again, grow, and become their best selves with our guidance and caring support.

Ms. Judith described it beautifully:
“Balay Pag-Uswag is more than a facility. It is a threshold.”

A threshold they will cross from uncertainty to stability, from survival to growth, supported by compassionate care and a space truly designed for their transformation.

On February 10, 2026, this partnership was formalized through an Agreement Signing held at the Open Day Center with the Board of Trustees of Balay Dalangpan sg Kabataan Inc.

Some of our beneficiaries have already visited the Balay Pag-Uswag and have begun helping clear the grounds. We are now entering the important work of preparing the house to become truly livable, ensuring it is safe, welcoming, and ready to receive its future residents... and we will need all the help we can get.

Balay Pag-Uswag is not just a new facility. It is the next chapter of our commitment to walk with children not only during the day, but every step of the way toward a brighter future.

Our hearts are grateful that our paths have crossed, and our visions aligned, Balay Dalangpan sg Kabataan! Together, for the children!

HELP FINDS A WAY: Typhoon-hit ODC beneficiaries receive generous donation.

On January 20, we received a generous donation of rice and groceries from Ms. Queen Juliet Rebuya and her family, who found a way to reach out and help our beneficiaries despite being from a different place. Their support came at a crucial time for our Open Day Center youth, many of whom were severely affected by Typhoon Tino last November, and are just starting to rebuilding their lives.

During her visit to the Open Day Center, Ms. Queen listened firsthand to the stories of our beneficiaries, most of whom come from Barangay 1, one of the areas hardest hit by the typhoon. As each beneficiary was called, they received a sack of rice and groceries, including milk, food items, and laundry soap.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Ma’am Queen and her family for sharing their blessings and showing genuine care for our beneficiaries. We are truly grateful that our paths have crossed, and we hope to welcome you back again soon.

We would also like to thank Joseph, who was visiting his friend Lucas (our ODC volunteer); upon learning about the situation of our beneficiaries, chose to extend his help. Gestures like this remind us how compassion can come from unexpected connections.

Thank you Papa Ranel Legaspi and Kuya Lucas for making sure the kids all got home safe.
