Three months have swiftly passed and our ALS learners continuously thrive in their schooling. There have been challenges and difficulties along the way that made them feel like they are trudging on a hill, and falter their self-determination - but everyday, they choose to attend their class with enthusiasm and certainty.

At Virlanie FAITH-Open Day Center, we recognize the significance of ensuring full support to our children and youth beneficiaries thus, we share our mission of transcending hope and transforming lives to our friends, partners, and supporters. Indeed, a mission shared is like a ripple that creates a chain of unlimited graces and opportunities.

Last July 3 and August 14, 2026, the Philippine FoodBank Foundation sent us again generous donation of bread. The ALS Learners and the children from the street were served with tasteful breads during snacks and night street walk.

Our long-time partner in Education program, volunteers from BUKLOD, subsequently conducted the tutorial to our ALS elementary learners last June 13, July 11, and August 8, 2026. The tutorial session is an effective intervention that motivate the learners to persevere in their schooling.

To make education experience more inspiring to our learners, ODC received a donation of 14 armchairs from Kaisahang Buhay Foundation, an NGO based in Manila. Our learners expressed their excitement to sit on their own chairs while eagerly listening to the lectures of Teacher Ann and Teacher Leah.

Further, during the last 2 months, ODC received donations of rice, canned goods, clothes, school and hygiene supplies from generous friends and partners of Virlanie FAITH.

The past three months is a manifestation of HOPE and belief in the POWER OF SUPPORT SYSTEM. Thus, we take this chance to honor and thank everyone who has helped us sustain our programs and services at the Open Day Center. Your trust in us and care for the our children and youth beneficiaries is a powerful force that can turn their dreams into reality.

At Virlanie FAITH Inc. the Children in Street Situations (CiSS) and youth at risk including those who are out-of-school are given the opportunity for continuing education through the Alternative Learning Service (ALS), a program that has been a part of the fundamental core of Virlanie FAITH -Open Day Center in partnership with the Department of Education. .

On June 4, 2026, Virlanie FAITH-Open Day Center joined the nationwide BRIGADA ESKWELA, a volunteer program led by the Department of Education (DepEd). Virlanie ALS learners expressed their excitement as they prepared their classroom led by ODC Teacher, Ms. Ann. On June 8, 2026, ODC welcomed the learners with enthusiasm and hope that this academic year will be fruitful to each one of them.

With renewed determination and courage, the learners committed to pursue their education despite the challenges that confronts them, be it financial, broken relationships, or medical deterrents. Their dreams will be the armor that will bring them closer to a brighter future.

As we move forward, Virlanie FAITH will remain faithful to its mission to offer opportunities for growth and development to the children in street situations and youth at risk.

Today, we celebrate a remarkable man whose dreams are not for himself, but for those who have yet to dream for themselves.

While some families gather around tables filled with three-course meals three times a day, others struggle to have at least one meal to fill -in their empty stomach for the entire day. This stark reality often goes unnoticed by many. Feeding the community requires partnerships that believe in alleviating the hunger of the least among us.

The word “FAITH” in Virlanie FAITH Inc. stands for Food Always In The Home. While providing permanent shelter is way out of our capacity, through the Street-Reach-out service, we are committed to provide meals, medicines, and other basic necessities to the youth and Children in Street Situations (CiSS) within Bacolod City. Indeed, Virlanie FAITH has limited resources and it has been an on-going challenge for us to sustain this service at least ones every week. Thus, we deemed it necessary to collaborate with other organization and groups that could supplement the need for food of the youth and children that we serve.

True to what we believe that “with pure intention, comes grace”, on June 2, 2026, the partnership of Virlanie FAITH, Inc. with Philippine FoodBank Foundation Inc. commenced through a virtual meet-up with their kind-hearted President, Mr. Itong Torres, and Ms. Ayie Navarro, the person in-charge with food distribution. This opportunity was certainly a blessing as on June 10, 2026 we were given packs of bread that we distributed on June 11, 2026 to the children and youth in the street.

This simple yet meaningful act was made possible through the generosity of our partner foundation. With this collaboration, hope is ignited—not only for those we serve, but also for Virlanie FAITH, reminding us that we are not alone in this mission of compassion and service.

Together, we can continue to make a difference, one meal and one act of kindness at a time.

A Significant Breakthrough

In a world where many are given the privilege of education, there are countless young people continuously fighting battles far beyond their age and capabilities. At the Open Day Center, we incessantly receive children and young people coming from the streets and surrounding barangays of Bacolod City. Most of them carry the weight of hunger, neglect, abandonment, loss of sense of direction, betrayal, abuse, and uncertainty of what the future holds for them. Yet, despite these circumstances, they have kept their hopes and dreams alive.

A simple graduation activity last May 29, 2026, marked the significant milestone of our ten (10) learners of the Basic Learning Service. Virlanie FAITH-ODC acknowledged their perseverance and dedication as they completed the twenty-one (21) days session of learning how to read, write, count, and comprehend. This achievement paves their way towards the Alternative Learning System (ALS) – a DepED program that aims to provide a free, flexible education pathway for out-of-school youth, adults, and marginalized children.

More than just a graduation ceremony, this moment symbolizes hope, resilience, and the power of second chances. Education becomes more than just lessons inside a classroom. It becomes a doorway to dignity, confidence, and a brighter future. Through ALS, these young people are given another opportunity to continue learning, dream bigger, and rebuild their lives one step at a time. As we celebrate this important achievement, we also honor the volunteers, teachers, social workers, sponsors, and co-partners who continue to open doors for young people in need. Their compassion helps transform pain into hope and hopelessness into purpose. The road ahead may still be difficult, but today proves that change is possible. These young people are no longer only survivors of the streets; they are students, dreamers, and future changemakers.

As we kick-off the 2026 Basic Literacy Service for the street children and youth at risk, ODC facilitated a three-phase activities that aimed at assessing the functional literacy level of each child/youth learner.

Phase 1 : Orientation. During the activity, the Basic Literacy Service (BLS) was likened to a journey in a “Ship”. Our Executive Director, Ms. Adelle Lemay pointed out to the learners the importance of determination and perseverance. In her explanation, she reiterated that once the learner “boarded” the ship, they must not waver in their decision to chase their dreams. She assured them that there shall be “huge waves” along the journey, but as long as they fix their gaze in their dreams, no waves could ever falter a determined spirit. The learners also shared their individual dream professions by which was likened to an island, hence, the goal of the “ship journey” is to reach the "Island “ of their dreams. Phase 2: “Treasure Hunt”, represented by a Fun Relay game, aimed at discovering the in stored knowledge of each learner. In this activity facilitated by our Programs Manager, Ms. Desiree Apuhin and supported by other staff, the learners indulged in “brain exercises” including financial literacy, strategic thinking, and technical analysis. Phase 3: This 3rd and final phase determined the reading, writing, and comprehension skills of the learners.

All throughout the three phases, the learners demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm, dedication, and eagerness to learn. They shall embark on a 21-week learning sessions designed to strengthen their foundational skills and prepare them for the Alternative Learning System (ALS) Assessment, opening doors to greater educational and life opportunities. We celebrate every learner who dared to come aboard the “Ship” and commend their courage to dream, learn, and strive for a brighter future. This journey is the beginning of many opportunities that will transform their lives and empower them to reach their full potential

MORE THAN OUTREACH: Bacolod Tay Tung Highschool's Continued Journey with Virlanie FAITH Farm

Bacolod Taytung High School once again visited the Virlanie FAITH Farm, this time bringing their high school students for a meaningful immersion experience as part of their Good Deeds Day. Throughout the visit, students spent time with our residents making bracelets, weaving rugs, and simply sharing moments together, allowing them to better understand the residents’ individuality through experiencing their day-to-day activities together.

For the past months, Taytung has been a valued partner of the Virlanie FAITH Farm, supporting through outreach activities, organizing immersions for their Grade 4 students, and even bringing visiting guests. Seeing them extend this experience to their high school students shows a deepening commitment to learning beyond the classroom.

We truly appreciate Bacolod Taytung High School for their continued visits, despite the distance. By exposing young people to lives different from their own, they help cultivate inclusivity and acceptance from an early age, an important foundation in shaping compassionate and socially aware adults.

HOPE CAME KNOCKING: An unexpected blessing at the Open Day Center

In recent days, things have been especially overwhelming at the Open Day Center. In the midst of uncertainty and challenges that feel bigger than us, the team gathered with the children for a simple community prayer to pause, reflect, and lift up our fears and hopes together.

Not long after, something unexpected happened. A van arrived at the center, carrying bags of food donations. The timing could not have been more perfect.
The children watched in amazement, witnessing an answered prayer unfolding right before them. It was a quiet yet powerful moment, one that reminded all of us of the meaning of this Lenten season: to trust, to reflect, and to hold on to hope.

Even if the challenges are not yet fully overcome, this moment reminded us that grace will always find its way.

WAY OF LIFE: Residents share a day at the Farm with Japanese guests

Bacolod Tay Tung High School returned to the FAITH Farm, this time with a group of Japanese students organized by Grow Forward JP Inc. in partnership with NPO REGIONAL EDUCATION SUPPORT (Japan Org), for a day of immersion into farm life.

Students took part in a hands-on educational tour, feeding chickens, harvesting eggs, and even spending time with our ducks. The visit continued with a simple but meaningful exchange, as our residents shared their livelihood skills, teaching guests how to make rugs and bracelets.

It was a day of learning, sharing, and connection across cultures, made even more special by the joy and curiosity everyone brought with them.
