๐ŸŒธ Empowering Mothers, Nurturing Futures ๐ŸŒธ

Last March 15, 2026, INA-KABABAIHAN: Maternal-Newborn Care Workshop carried forward its mission at the Barangay Estefania Hall, bringing vital knowledge, support, and encouragement closer to mothers in the community.

Alongside Dr. May Irene Rife and Nurse Ana Mercedes M. Lamela, pregnant women, caregivers, and barangay health workers took part in engaging discussions and practical sessions on safe pregnancy, empowered childbirth, and proper newborn care.

This gathering marked another meaningful step toward building confidence among mothers and strengthening community support systems โ€” because informed and supported mothers lay the foundation for healthier generations.

As we continue this journey, we remain committed to uplifting families and creating lasting impact โ€” one workshop, one community, one barangay at a time ๐Ÿ’ซ

Ukraine: An Ongoing Humanitarian Crisis

After four years of large-scale conflict, Ukraine still deals with a major humanitarian crisis. Because homes have been destroyed, many people live in unstable conditions. While fighting persists, countless families lack access to essentials like food or shelter. Due to damaged infrastructure, aid delivery remains difficult across several regions.

๐Ÿ“Scale of Displacement and Civilian Impact
Nearly 11 million Ukrainians have left their homes since 2022, of which:
โ€ข Around 7 million refugees live overseas
โ€ข Around 4 million are internally displaced within Ukraine

Women and children form most of those forced to flee; this exposes them more to mental health struggles, safety risks, or financial hardship.
More than 42,000 non-combatants - one out of every seventeen being a child - suffered death or injury. Around 2.5 million residences faced partial damage or complete ruin; this led to roughly $176 billion in financial setbacks affecting dwellings, power grids, transit routes, alongside essential public facilities.

๐Ÿ“ Widespread Damage and Basic Needs
Sustained attacks have damaged key services. Due to repeated attacks, Water systems, schools, medical centers, and power grids face long-term disruptions. As winter sets in, the risks grow worse - especially for those displaced or living near the front lines.

Across Ukraine, 12.7 million individuals need immediate aid. Many face difficulties obtaining basic supplies
โ€ข Safe shelter and/or emergency accommodations
โ€ข Clean water, food, and heating
โ€ข Healthcare access and psychosocial support
โ€ข Access to functioning educational systems
โ€ข Legal papers required for work, services, and mobility.

Neighboring countries have taken in many refugees - numbering more than two million, requiring ongoing aid due to the prolonged conflict and unclear prospects ahead.

IN SYRIA: THE WAR HAS ENDED, BUT THE CRISIS HAS NOT.

Years after the height of the war, millions of Syrians are still trapped in a cycle of displacement, danger, and survival. What peace exists on paper has not translated into safety or dignity for civilians on the ground.

Around 1 million former refugees and 1.9 million internally displaced Syrians have returned, but nearly 7 million still lack stable shelter.
Returnees often find their communities destroyed, with homes and essential services (including water systems, schools, and clinics) heavily damaged.
Explosive remnants remain widespread, causing over 1,300 deaths and injuries in early 2025.
Continued instability, contamination from unexploded ordnance, and limited resources prevent effective reconstruction.

Even though major hostilities have ceased, militias still operate in some areas of Syria.
Repeated fighting leads to fresh displacements, injuries, while slowing down rebuilding efforts.
Many areas still face unrest, making life risky for civilians.

Millions depend on humanitarian aid for basic needs: water, food, medicine, fuel, shelter.
The collapse of medical and hygiene systems has made people more prone to disease and unreliable access to food poses many people at risk of malnutrition.
Many children have lost access to education services; meanwhile, learning networks are still damaged or are no longer in operation.
Displaced families frequently go back to risky, poor areas marked by trauma โ€“ where stability is rare, while recovery feels out of reach.

Tigray's Silent Emergency: A Call for Protection, Accountability, and Humanitarian Access

Tigray is once again on the brink. Despite the 2022 Pretoria Agreement, renewed clashes between TPLF forces, the federal government-backed interim administration, and reported Eritrean involvement are driving instability in northern Ethiopia. Civilians continue to suffer displacement, restricted humanitarian access, collapsed health systems, and documented human rights abuses, including weaponized sexual violence. The risk of wider regional conflict between Ethiopia and Eritrea threatens the Horn of Africa's stability and deepens the humanitarian crisis.

Across Gaza and the West Bank, millions of Palestinians are living through one of the most devastating humanitarian crises of our time. For decades these territories have remained under military occupation.

Today, the situation has escalated into what UN experts and commissions now recognize as acts of genocide.

Families wake up each day to bombardments that level homes, schools, hospitals, and entire neighborhoods. Water systems, power grids, and food supplies have been systematically destroyed. Parents fear starvation as food is blocked from entering, farmlands are flattened, and displacement camps are repeatedly struck despite being labeled โ€œsafe zones.โ€

The human impact is staggering:
Tens of thousands killed or injured, many of them women and children.
Whole communities uprooted multiple times, with nowhere left to flee.
Hospitals forced to operate without anesthesia, medical supplies, or electricity.
Psychological trauma widespread as survivors endure relentless loss.

Human rights experts call for:
โ€ข An immediate ceasefire
โ€ข Full humanitarian access
โ€ข Protection of all civilians
โ€ข Accountability for war crimes and crimes against humanity

Corporations supplying weapons and technology to occupation forces also share responsibility and must ensure they are not complicit in violations of international law.

The worldโ€™s largest humanitarian crisis right now is in Sudan.

Since 2023, the people in Sudan have been embroiled in a civil war of alarming brutality. Around 30.4 million people, a population comparable to CALABARZON and the National Capital Region combined, are in need of assistance.

The Sudanese wake up each day afraid of bombings. Parents are terrified of the mass conscription, r**e, and genocide. Both sides in the warโ€“the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)--target hospitals, recruit child soldiers, and conduct r**e and sexual slavery over millions of women, be it children or adults.

But it's the hunger thatโ€™s truly everywhere: 21.2 million Sudanese without regular access to food, with 2 million children below 5 years old malnourished.

The Red Cross and United Nations both call Sudan home to the largest underreported tragedy currently happening.

Halfway across the world, we can make a difference.

More on the Sudanese Crisis
Why The War Started
On 15 April 2023, war erupted in a power struggle between Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF), over integration and command of forces. The conflict is rooted in long-standing issues: failed security sector reforms, lack of accountability, and deep political divide.

Widespread Atrocities & Targeting of Civilians
Both SAF and RSF responsible for serious war-crimes: indiscriminate bombings, extrajudicial killings, mass abductions, widespread sexual violence, and looting of aid and resources.
Civilian areas including homes, marketplaces, hospitals, and displacement camps โ€” have been repeatedly attacked.
Ethnic cleansing is reported, especially in regions like Darfur, non-Arab communities targeted, entire villages destroyed, mass graves found.

Human Impact: A Nation in Crisis
Mass Displacement
Nearly 13 million people uprooted, internally displaced or forced to flee abroad.

Children & families among hardest hit
Huge numbers of children displaced, orphaned, or separated from families.
Many lack access to food, clean water, shelter, medical care or education.

Healthcare collapse
80% of hospitals in conflict zones are non-functional.
Medical infrastructure destroyed, personnel killed or displaced and many civilians die or suffer from lack of care.

Famine & Disease
Widespread food insecurity.
Many children under five suffer from malnutrition; outbreaks of disease like cholera, measles, worsened by collapsed sanitation and healthcare systems.

Psychological trauma & human rights abuses
Arbitrary detentions, enforced disappearances, torture, and rampant sexual violence with many survivors lacking support or justice.

The Worldโ€™s Silent Crisis: Why Itโ€™s โ€œForgottenโ€
The war has become what ISHR calls โ€œThe Forgotten Tragedyโ€ despite catastrophic human suffering, the global public and media attention remain limited.

Humanitarian aid and international response remain insufficient, many needs unmet and millions remain at risk.

Human Rights Day โ€” December 10 ๐ŸŒค๏ธ
Today we celebrate a milestone in global dignity: the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted in 1948, which set a bold promise that every person is entitled to freedom, equality, and protection โ€” no exceptions.

A Global Blueprint
The UDHR serves as a โ€œcommon standard of achievementโ€ for all people and nations. It shapes:
* International laws
* National policies
* Local governance
* The 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda

The UDHR reminds us that human rights belong to all of us, regardless of who we are, where we come from, or what we believe.

Letโ€™s honor that vision by standing up for human rights every day.

๐ŸŒธ INA-KABABAIHAN: Strengthening Maternal-Newborn Care in the Communities of Bacolod City ๐ŸŒธ

This December 7, we bring another session of the ongoing INA-KABABAIHAN Maternal-Newborn Care Workshop to the Granada Barangay Hall โ€” continuing our mission of compassion, education, and community empowerment under the theme "Empowering Mothers, Nurturing Futures."

In this session, we further our commitment to supporting pregnant women, caregivers, and barangay health workers through hands-on learning and essential knowledge on safe pregnancy, childbirth, and newborn care.

With the guidance of Dr. Kathryn Kristy P. Bautista and Nurse Ana Mercedes Lamela, we work toward building a healthier, better-informed community for mothers and their little ones.

Let's continue empowering mothers and nurturing brighter tomorrows โ€” one session, one barangay at a time. ๐Ÿค
