As the Panaad sa Negros 2026 kicked off, the BAKURAN officers and members participated in the Youth Bantay Bayan Dialogue on Zero Waste held on April 14, 2026.

The BAKURAN Eco-Warriors, alongside student leaders, journalists, and environmental advocates from various organizations, engaged in a series of meaningful discussions about a zero-waste future.

The event featured three sessions, beginning with a discussion led by Aizel Pabon from the Internal Deputy Navigator of the 3Zero Club Philippine Network on Zero Plastic Waste. The session tackled the environmental impact of plastic pollution and shared practical methods for reducing its use. This was followed by a session on Zero Food Waste, where Genrick Catalonia, a project officer at the NYLI Climate Solutions Center, presented staggering statistics to highlight the critical nature of food waste in society.

The final presentation was delivered by Raesan Perez from the NYLI Climate Solutions Center, who addressed the transition toward sustainable power in a talk titled โ€œZero Energy Waste.โ€ The session revealed the harsh realities of fossil fuel dependency while offering solutions through clean, renewable energy.

Despite the scorching heat, the event continued and transitioned into a Q&A session. Joining the panel was Ms. Coleen Awit from NYLI, who emphasized the vast potential of solar energy as a sustainable power source. Her insights highlighted the theme of the day: the vital importance of sustainability for a greener future.

Last March 28, 2026, BAKURAN took part in the 12-hour Earth Hour celebration, beginning with the opening program at the BCGC Lobby alongside fellow organizations and city officials of Bacolod. BAKURAN Adviser, Dr. Junalyn C. Libiran, highlighted the organizationโ€™s outstanding initiativeโ€”the Trash-to-Cash-Back Programโ€”and reminded everyone that while we turn off the lights, our responsibility must continue beyond an hour, extending to future generations.

In the evening, BAKURAN members and officers actively joined the provincial culmination at the Capitol Lagoon, where over 800 participants gathered in a strong show of unity and climate action. Organized by Negrosanon Initiative for Climate and the Environment in partnership with University of St. La Salle, Bacolod Environment and Natural Resources Office, and Provincial Environment and Management Office, the event featured forums, exhibits, and community-led initiatives promoting renewable energy and sustainable solutions.

More than participants, some BAKURAN officers also served as part of the organizing committee, contributing to the success of this meaningful celebration. As lights dimmed at 8:30 PM, candles illuminated the spaceโ€”symbolizing not just solidarity, but a shared commitment to a cleaner and more sustainable future.

BAKURAN is committed to upholding its projects and initiatives within and outside the institution. However, these projects and initiatives cannot be accomplished alone by the organization.

For the past few days, some of the BAKURAN officers have noticed improper waste disposal beside the guard house at the side entrance. As members of the Bacolod City College community, it is essential for everyone to uphold the values instilled by the institution. Everyone must be held liable for their own garbage.
With this, BAKURAN strongly encourages not only students but also faculty members, staff, and utility workers to participate in its projects and initiatives.

Our commitment to the environment remains strong, and we encourage every member of the institution to play their part in this commitment.

Here in BAKURAN, we encourage everyone to not just ๐ฌ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐œ๐ก ๐จ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ for an hour, but to ๐ฌ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐œ๐ก ๐จ๐ง our commitment to care for the Earth every single day of the year.

Bacolod City College Advocates for Kalikasan: Unifying, Restoring, Augmenting and Nurturing (BAKURAN), the environmental arm of Bacolod City College, is now a globally recognized and officially accredited youth organization, having secured accreditation from the Global Youth Program and earning international recognition as a Top 20 Finalist in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Awards for the Most Outstanding Project for the Planet.

The Certificate of Accreditation was issued on February 2, 2026, in Quezon City. It states that BAKURAN completed all the needed requirements under the Global Youth Program policies. The accreditation is valid from February 20, 2026, to February 20, 2027. This means the group can join more programs, partnerships, and activities for youth development.

Aside from this, BAKURAN was also chosen as one of the Top 20 Finalists in the UN SDG Awards under the โ€œMost Outstanding Project for the Planetโ€ category. This award shows that the groupโ€™s projects help protect the environment and support sustainable development.

The turnover of the certificate happened on March 24, 2026, at Bacolod City College. These achievements show that BAKURAN is growing and becoming more active, not only in the college but also in the international community.
