A passionate conservation champion. A friend. A mentor. Thank you for helping strengthen the conservation science in the Philippines, for mentoring generations of Filipinos in herpetofauna studies, and for translating science into meaningful actions that communities and governments can use.

We will dearly miss you Dr. Sabine Schoppe. Our prayers for your eternal peace.

It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Dr. Sabine Schoppe. She was laid to rest peacefully in her childhood home on September 13, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

We remember her as a scholar, a guiding force in conservation, and a deeply cherished friend. In many ways, she shaped the lives of the people around her and the animals she so devotedly worked to protect. Her passing leaves a profound void in our hearts.

As we make the necessary arrangements for her memorial service in Puerto Princesa, we humbly ask for your prayers and thoughts. Further details will be shared as soon as they are finalized.

Thank you for your continued prayers, love, and support during this difficult time.

William Langley Richardson Oliver
1947-2014
Founder of the Philippine Biodiversity Conservation Foundation Inc. PhilBio

We had the privilege of having a founder, a mentor and a friend like you William. Your love for Philippine wildlife, hard work, persistent drive and undying passion showed us what it means to sincerely work in conservation science. Your commitment and dedication to the conservation of Philippines biodiversity had benefitted many threatened and endemic wildlife. You have also unselfishly trained and mentored many Filipinos that became an inspiration for many of us. You always reminded us to make a difference for the good and to always work for the best interest of the conservation of biodiversity and not for our self or for anyone else’s benefit.

DAGHANG SALAMAT for all the things you taught us, for paving the way, the Philippines or perhaps the rest of the world benefited from your meaningful contributions.

We celebrate your life and the ensure your legacy will live through.
