Today, May 25, 2026, the Junior Forensic Investigators Society (JFIS) successfully concluded a highly anticipated 𝗘𝗰𝗵𝗼 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗤𝗗𝗘) & 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝘆𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆 at MN502, Teodoro Hall. This peer-led initiative was specifically designed to equip all CCJE 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘀 (JFIS, CRIMSOC, KOC, Student Council, COMPRO, Community Extension) and 𝗖𝗟 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗴 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘀 (Sections A-I).

The comprehensive training was divided into two major forensic disciplines, guided by our very own JFIS Agents:

• 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝟴:𝟬𝟬 𝗔𝗠 - 𝟭𝟮:𝟬𝟬 𝗣𝗠): The event kicked off with an in-depth lecture on the 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗤𝗗𝗘. This engaging segment was delivered by 𝗦𝗜𝗡𝗦𝗣 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹 𝗩 𝗣𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮 (𝗝𝗙𝗜𝗦) Senior Agent 11, alongside 𝗦𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗧 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗗 𝗔𝗽𝗹𝗮-𝗼𝗻 (𝗝𝗙𝗜𝗦) current JFIS Chief, and 𝗖𝗜𝗡𝗦𝗣 𝗘𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗮 𝗝𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗮 𝗖𝗿𝘂𝘇 (𝗝𝗙𝗜𝗦) current Assistant Deputy Chief for Operations.

• 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗼𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝟭:𝟬𝟬 𝗣𝗠 - 𝟱:𝟬𝟬 𝗣𝗠): In the afternoon, the focus shifted to the science of 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝘆𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘆. This session was spearheaded by 𝗦𝗜𝗡𝗦𝗣 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗔𝗿𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗦 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗴𝗮𝗼 (𝗝𝗙𝗜𝗦) Junior Agent 1, Former Chief A.Y. 2024-2025, and current Deputy Chief for Administration of CL Mandirigma, who guided the classroom and organizational officers through the principles and applications of deception detection. To bridge theory with practice, 𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗧 𝗔𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗲 𝗗 𝗟𝗶𝗺 (𝗝𝗙𝗜𝗦) then took the floor to conduct a live, practical demonstration of the computerized polygraph instrument.

By bringing together student leaders across the department, this event highlighted the College and JFIS’s dedication to collaborative, peer-to-peer learning—ensuring that vital forensic knowledge is passed down to strengthen the foundation of our future criminologists.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗖𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗕𝗘𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗖𝗘𝗡𝗘: Forensic Geology (or Geoforensics) involves the use of earth materials—such as soil, rocks, minerals, and dust—to support criminal investigations. Because the earth's surface is geologically diverse, the soil found in one backyard can have a completely different mineral profile than the soil just a few kilometers away. These microscopic "earth signatures" are easily transferred to a suspect’s footwear or car tires. Even after a suspect attempts to clean their gear, forensic scientists can often find trace minerals trapped in seams or tread that provide an irrefutable link to a specific location.

𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗖𝗜𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗕𝗘𝗛𝗜𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗖𝗘𝗡𝗘: Forensic Palynology is the study of pollen and spores to help solve legal issues. Every geographic region has a unique "pollen fingerprint" based on its local vegetation. Because pollen is microscopic and possesses an incredibly durable outer shell (exine), it can survive for decades and cling to almost any surface, from the fibers of a jacket to the tread of a boot. When investigators find a rare pollen grain on a suspect that matches a specific plant found only at the crime scene, they have established a powerful, microscopic link that is nearly impossible to explain away.

The Junior Forensic Investigators Society (JFIS) of 𝗦𝗧𝗜 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗡𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘀 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 has successfully concluded the practical component of its 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀-𝗢𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝗯𝗿𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟮𝟭, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲. This session followed the foundational online lecture, ensuring our members moved from virtual concepts to mastering the actual application of chemical principles in forensic science.

This intensive hands-on training was led by our expert lecturer, 𝗠𝗿. 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘇𝗲𝗿 𝗔. 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗲, 𝗥𝗠𝗧, 𝗟𝗣𝗧, 𝗥𝗖𝗵𝗧, 𝗠𝗔𝗘𝗱(𝗖𝗔𝗥), 𝗠𝗟𝗦(𝗔𝗦𝗖𝗣𝗶), STIWNU-CCJE Faculty.

𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝟭: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝘁
The session focused on the 𝘿𝙞𝙥𝙝𝙚𝙣𝙮𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙏𝙚𝙨𝙩, also known as the 𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙣 𝙏𝙚𝙨𝙩, which is a forensic procedure used to detect gunshot residue (GSR) on a person's hands. Participants practiced the meticulous 𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙖𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙣 𝘾𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙘𝙚𝙙𝙪𝙧𝙚, which involves applying melted paraffin wax and absorbent cotton to create a solid, hardened shell on the subject's hands to trap gunpowder particles. Once the cast was hardened and removed, members moved to the 𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙏𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙝𝙖𝙨𝙚, where a reagent is used to react with nitrates, causing a characteristic blue or blue-violet coloration if residues are present.

𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝟮: 𝗘𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗱𝘆
Beyond the laboratory techniques, agents were trained in the critical administrative aspect of forensic science: maintaining the 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗱𝘆. Participants were taught how to properly fill out 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹𝘀, documenting essential Subject Information, Specimen Descriptions, and the precise details of the Collecting Officer. This training ensures that every piece of evidence handled by our future investigators remains legally admissible and protected from contamination.

𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝟯: 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆
A key highlight of the training was the evaluation of the test's 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. Members discussed how the test can yield 𝗳𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 from environmental sources like fertilizers, to***co, or cosmetics. They also explored how residues can be naturally removed through 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘄𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝘀𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴, or friction.
This critical analysis reinforced why modern courts often treat the paraffin test as weak evidence compared to advanced methods like SEM-EDX.

The Junior Forensic Investigators Society (JFIS) of 𝗦𝗧𝗜 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗡𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘀 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 formally held its momentous 𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝗖𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘆 on 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟭, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱, recognizing the induction and promotion of its Officers and Agents for Academic Year 2025-2026. 𝗖𝗘𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗢𝗡𝗬 𝗛𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗦: 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗳𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: The program began with a prayer by 𝗘𝗮𝗿𝗹 𝗟. 𝗩𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗰𝗼 (𝗕𝗦𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗠 𝟭) and featured the Opening Remarks by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗟𝗶𝘇𝗮 𝗝𝗼𝘆 𝗕. 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻, Program Head of CCJE. The inspiring message was delivered by Resource Speaker 𝗣𝗠𝗔𝗝 𝗔𝗟𝗙𝗢𝗡𝗦𝗢 𝗙 𝗖𝗔𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗘𝗦, 𝗥𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗠, 𝗠𝗦𝗖𝗝- 𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗠, CCJE Faculty.

𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: JFIS Adviser 𝗠𝗿. 𝗪𝗜𝗟𝗙𝗥𝗘𝗗𝗢 𝗢 𝗗𝗘 𝗟𝗔 𝗖𝗥𝗨𝗭 𝗝𝗥. formally presented the 𝟮𝟳 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀, ncluding 5 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝟭𝟮 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟭𝟬 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀, certifying their fulfillment of all mandatory organizational standards.

𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: The solemn 𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 officially bestowed positions, emphasizing the responsibilities accompanying each rank.

𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳’𝘀 𝗔𝗱𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀: Newly appointed JFIS Chief, 𝗦𝗦𝗨𝗣𝗧 𝗝𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗖𝗔 𝗗 𝗔𝗣𝗟𝗔-𝗢𝗡 (𝗝𝗙𝗜𝗦), delivered a powerful message urging members to embrace the 𝙥𝙝𝙖𝙨𝙚-𝙗𝙮-𝙥𝙝𝙖𝙨𝙚 𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨 and to wear their ranks with 𝙝𝙪𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙙𝙚.
