PICE NOC Strengthens Leadership, Governance, and Team Spirit in Boracay

BORACAY, AKLAN — August 29–31, 2026. The Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers – Negros Occidental Chapter (PICE NOC) convened its 8th Regular Board Meeting for the month of August at Fairways and Bluewater, Boracay, bringing together the chapter’s officers for three days of leadership, organizational planning, and fellowship.

The regular board meeting provided an important venue for the officers to discuss matters concerning the chapter’s continuing programs and activities, while also taking up proposed amendments to the PICE NOC Constitution and By-Laws. The discussions focused on strengthening the chapter’s governance framework and ensuring that its policies remain responsive to the needs of its members and aligned with the organization’s continuing development.

Beyond formal boardroom discussions, the gathering also served as an opportunity for the PICE NOC officers to step away from their usual professional responsibilities and strengthen their working relationship through a team-building activity. The three-day engagement encouraged open communication, camaraderie, trust, and a stronger sense of shared responsibility among the chapter’s leadership.

The activity reflected the chapter’s belief that effective leadership extends beyond meetings and resolutions. A strong professional organization is built not only on sound policies, but also on officers who understand one another, work together, and share a common commitment to serving the civil engineering profession and the community.

The Boracay gathering was made possible through the personal contributions of the participating officers and the generous support of sponsors, demonstrating the officers’ willingness to invest in and support the continued growth of the organization. Such support also reflects the spirit of volunteerism that has long been part of PICE NOC’s activities.

As PICE NOC continues to expand its programs in professional development, community service, sports, and organizational engagement, the August gathering served as a timely reminder that strong foundations begin within the organization itself. WELCOME HOME FOUNDATION HONORS PICE NOC FOR SERVICE AND SUPPORT

The spirit of service came full circle on August 28, 2026, as the Welcome Home Foundation Inc. expressed its appreciation to the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers – Negros Occidental Chapter (PICE NOC) for its meaningful contribution to the foundation’s mission of providing a safe and nurturing environment for the children and families it serves. Held at the Welcome Home Foundation facility in Puentebella Subdivision, Barangay Taculing, Bacolod City, the gathering highlighted the foundation’s gratitude for the assistance extended by PICE NOC through its community outreach initiative.

The organization formally presented an appreciation award to PICE NOC in recognition of the chapter’s support, particularly its donation and the renovation of the foundation’s kitchen. The improvement of the kitchen was more than simply a construction project. It was an effort to create a cleaner, safer, and more functional space where meals could be prepared for the foundation’s beneficiaries.

Through the initiative, members of PICE NOC were able to put their professional knowledge and resources into action, not only in building structures, but also in helping build a better environment for the community.

The recognition serves as a reminder that the work of civil engineers extends beyond plans, specifications, and construction sites. Engineering can also be an instrument of compassion when technical skills are placed at the service of those who need them most.

Engr. Benitado of PICE NOC Inspires Future Civil Engineers at UNO-R “PUHON” General Assembly

BACOLOD CITY, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL — August 27, 2026. — The University of Negros Occidental–Recoletos (UNO-R) College of Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering held its Civil Engineering General Assembly on August 27, 2026, at the University Gymnasium, with the theme “PUHON” Inspired by Hope, Driven by Purpose.

The assembly gathered civil engineering students and members of the academic community for an inspiring occasion focused on professional growth, perseverance, leadership, and purpose.
A highlight of the event was the inspirational message of Engr. Sharon S. Benitado, President of the Philippine Institute of Civil Engineers – Negros Occidental Chapter (PICE NOC), who served as Guest Speaker and represented PICE NOC.

Engr. Benitado encouraged the students to embrace the challenges of their engineering journey, emphasizing that success is achieved through continuous effort and perseverance.

“Success in engineering is not an elevator. It’s a staircase!”
Representing PICE NOC, she also emphasized that the challenges of civil engineering extend beyond mathematics and technical calculations.

“The hardest part of Civil Engineering is not always the mathematics. Sometimes it’s people.” She explained that professional engineers work with contractors, clients, supervisors, stakeholders, politicians, and the public—people who do not always follow formulas. Thus, communication, collaboration, leadership, and relationship-building are equally important skills.

“Technical skills will get you hired. But people skills will help you grow.” Her message reflected the spirit of PUHON, reminding students that becoming a successful civil engineer requires not only technical knowledge but also perseverance, purpose, and the ability to work effectively with people.

Through the message of Engr. Benitado, representing PICE NOC, the future civil engineers of UNO-R were reminded that the road to success is a staircase—one step at a time, built through knowledge, experience, determination, and purpose.

PICE Sports Fest 2026 Culminates with Thrilling Championship Games and Awards

BACОLOD CITY — August 15, 2026. The PICE Sports Fest 2026 officially came to a thrilling close on August 15, 2026 at J The Leisure Hub, Buri Road, Mandalagan, Bacolod City, as friends, colleagues, and civil engineers gathered for an afternoon filled with intense competition, camaraderie, and sportsmanship.

The championship festivities opened with the PICE NOC Women’s Volleyball League 2026 Finals, featuring Bacolod City Lone District against 1st District Talisay City. The two teams battled through five highly competitive sets, showcasing determination, skill, and composure. With both sides displaying nearly equal strength throughout the match, every set brought excitement and uncertainty as spectators waited to see which team would emerge victorious. In the end, Bacolod City Lone District secured the championship after a thrilling five-set encounter.

The excitement continued with the PICE NOC Basketball Cup 2026 Season 2 Battle for Bronze, where 3rd District CHICKS faced 4th District Bago City. The 3rd District CHICKS took control of the game and secured the bronze medal with a 65–54 victory.

The afternoon’s final basketball showdown featured 1st District Talisay City against 2nd District Binalbagan for the championship. Talisay City delivered a dominant performance from start to finish, defeating Binalbagan 99–53 to claim the PICE NOC Basketball Cup Season 2 championship.

Following the championship games, the event proceeded to the awarding ceremony, celebrating not only the winners but also the athletes and teams who demonstrated dedication, discipline, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

In her message, PICE NOC President Engr. Sharon S. Benitado reflected on the journey of the Sports Fest and emphasized the importance of sports in strengthening camaraderie among civil engineers and members of the organization. She highlighted how the activities provided an avenue for members to step away from their professional routines, build stronger relationships, promote sportsmanship, and pursue a healthier and more active lifestyle.

The individual awards recognized the outstanding performances of athletes throughout the competition. JC Mae Atienza of Bacolod City Lone District was named Volleyball League MVP, while Jansein Tabaodaja of 2nd District Binalbagan received the Basketball League MVP award.

The PICE Student Chapter of the University of Negros Occidental–Recoletos (PICE SC UNO-R) was also recognized for its participation in the PICE NOC Women’s Volleyball League 2026, highlighting the organization’s continuing involvement of future civil engineers in PICE activities.

The Basketball Mythical Five was likewise announced, composed of JanseIn Tabaodaja and Paolo Masias of 2nd District Binalbagan, Kim Dimaranan and Justine Gulmatico of 1st District Talisay City, and Lucky Charm Ramos of Team Central.

For his exceptional performance during the championship, Justine Gulmatico was named Basketball Finals MVP, adding another individual accolade to his team’s championship campaign.

The women’s volleyball championship trophy was then awarded to Bacolod City Lone District, while 1st District Talisay City received the championship trophy and perpetual trophy as the winners of the PICE NOC Basketball Cup 2026 Season 2.

More than a series of games, the PICE Sports Fest 2026 served as a celebration of friendship, teamwork, healthy competition, and professional camaraderie. The cheers, close matches, victories, and shared moments throughout the afternoon reflected the spirit of an organization that values both excellence in civil engineering and the overall well-being of its members.

With the final trophies raised and the athletes celebrated, the PICE Sports Fest 2026 officially came to a close, leaving behind a memorable chapter of competition, sportsmanship, and fellowship among the civil engineering community of Negros Occidental.
