Free swim lessons could soon be coming to Vancouver 🏊‍♀️

City council has backed Mayor Ken Sim’s proposal to make the first three levels of swimming lessons free for residents, with a focus on children ages 3 to 12.

Supporters say the move could help families with affordability while improving water safety and access to swimming across the city.

Staff will now study costs, pilot locations, and how the program could roll out citywide.

Would you support free swim lessons in Vancouver?

On my last night in the Philippines, I’d like to give a big shout out to the team at Surf Life Saving Philippines, in particular Albert, Raymond, Benjo, Kim, Teddy, Ronnie, May, Carlito, Elly, Romel and Jumel.
It was fantastic watching you run the Nippers program the other day in Bacnotan. Your energy, enthusiasm and commitment to drowning prevention are outstanding. The Drowning Prevention symposium for the college students was an oustanding event that high lighted your professionalism.
I especially like the way you work so easily with government departments. That is obviously the road to success — engaging and partnering with the public sector in drowning prevention and water safety.
I wish you all the very best over the next month until I return in early July, and I hope all those things we planned today come off over the next couple of months. Thanks for the boat ride to the hundred islands.
All the best, guys. Keep doing what you’re doing.
