𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝘀𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗵! 💦

The tides of knowledge were high at our 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 in ALPAS La Union last 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟯, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰! 🐬🐢

Thanks to all the passionate applicants who joined our workshop! From learning about the incredible creatures of the oceans and rivers to understanding the importance of protecting them, you’ve taken a huge step toward becoming future leaders in the field of wildlife conservation.

Perched among the trees of the College of Veterinary Medicine grounds at DMMMSU - North La Union Campus, this female 𝗟𝘂𝘇𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹 (𝙋𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙡𝙤𝙥𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙨 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙚) showcases the beauty of native wildlife.

Luzon Hornbill, locally known as "𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰", is endemic to the Philippines and found on Luzon, Polillo and adjacent islands. The local name "Tarictic" is a reference to its call which has been described as a loud, clear, short squeak like a child’s squeeze-toy. The male has cream-colored underparts and a head with a black cheek, while the female is entirely black in color.

Luzon Hornbill thrives on a variety of diet that includes fruits, insects and small vertebrates. Its feeding habits are essential for dispersing seeds, particularly from fruit-bearing trees, contributing to the vitality of its forest habitat.

𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝘀𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗻? 𝗦𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝘂𝗿𝘁𝗹𝗲𝘀! 🐢🌧

NEWT - La Union joined Curma in partnership with ALPAS La Union for an awesome coastal cleanup in Brgy. Pandan, Bacnotan, La Union. We braved the wet weather and turned a rainy day into a turtle-saving adventure just in time for nesting season. Every piece of trash removed is a step closer to a safer home for our sea friends. 🐢🌊

Also, a heartfelt thank you to Hale lead vocalist and owner of ALPAS La Union, Sir Champ Lui Pio, for the support for our future events. We’re thrilled to have introduced our organization and we look forward to potential collaborations that will help us safeguard wildlife together! 🤙🏼🤝🏼

𝙋𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙂𝙪𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙇𝙖 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙤𝙣’𝙨 𝙎𝙚𝙧𝙥𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨: 𝘼 𝙎𝙣𝙖𝙠𝙚 𝙄𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙥 organized on 𝘼𝙪𝙜𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝟮𝟰, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 was a ssslithering success with our NEWT applicants!

Our workshop was not just about spotting scales and tails—it was a deep dive into understanding the diverse serpents of La Union. We explored their habitats, behaviors, and unique characteristics, all while sharing insights and knowledge.

𝙒𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙡𝙮 𝙞𝙣𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚! 🧠

We were honored to share our knowledge on 𝙒𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙀𝙭𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙘𝙨 at our recently concluded seminar held in 𝘽𝙖𝙧𝙤𝙧𝙤, 𝘽𝙖𝙘𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙖𝙣, 𝙇𝙖 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙤𝙣 on 𝘼𝙪𝙜𝙪𝙨𝙩 𝟮𝟰, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 and sure it was a wild escape from the ordinary. We had the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who share our passion for these incredible animals and raise awareness about the importance of conservation.

From the majestic serpents and reptiles, to the fascinating birds and mammals, we explored the diversity and beauty of these creatures. We learned about their unique characteristics, behaviors, and the challenges they face.

Over the course of the seminar, we delved into vital topics such as the roles of these animals in our ecosystems, and ways to take action in our communities.

We are deeply saddened to announce the loss of Philippine Eagle 'Uswag'. His carcass was retrieved afloat on the waters of Ponson Island in Pilar, Cebu.

Uswag’s tragic death is believed due to an accidental crash landing on the sea.

This case of Philippine eagles crash-landing accidentally at sea is the 9th documented case since 1984.
