2nd QUARTER NATIONAL SIMULTANEOUS EARTHQUAKE DRILL 2026
On June 18, 2026, at 9 AM in the morning, the BACNOTAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL through the SCHOOL DISASTER RISK REDUCTION AND MANAGEMENT COUNCIL conducted an earthquake drill to ensure students and staff on how to respond quickly and safely during seismic events. The drill was announced in advance as a safety practice, with the clear understanding that all participants were to follow instructions calmly and without running.
At the start of the drill, classes continued under normal activity for a few moments while staff reminded learners of the expected procedure. When the earthquake alarm/signal was activated , everyone immediately stopped moving and responded to the drill command. Students were instructed to DUCK, COVER, and HOLD procedure, they lowered themselves to the floor, moved under sturdy desks or along interior walls, and covered their heads and necks while holding on until the signal ended. Staff members assisted where needed, especially for younger students and anyone requiring additional support.
After the shaking signal stopped, the second stage began. Learners followed their assigned routes and exited carefully in an orderly manner. Teachers reminded students to stay quiet, avoid pushing, and proceed at a controlled pace. During the evacuation, staff checked to ensure that all individuals moved according to the plan, and monitored movement to prevent crowding at doors and stairways. Participants were directed to assemble at the evacuation area where attendance checks were conducted.
Once everyone was accounted for, a brief evaluation was performed. The drill allowed the staff to observe strengths and identify improvement areasโsuch as whether students maintained low posture during the alarm, whether the evacuation routes were followed correctly, and whether assembly procedures were efficient. Staff also reviewed reminders about safety behavior, including keeping clear of windows, avoiding panic, and listening for instructions throughout the drill.
Overall, the earthquake drill was successful, and it provided an important opportunity for the school/community to practice effective emergency response. The participation and discipline shown by students and staff demonstrated readiness for future emergencies.
