NINOY AQUINO DAY: REMEMBERING THE MAN BEHIND THE LEGACY
“The Filipino is worth dying for.” — Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr.
Today, we commemorate Ninoy Aquino Day, honoring Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., whose life became deeply intertwined with one of the most defining chapters in Philippine history.
Ninoy was more than a senator and political figure. He was a man who chose to speak when silence was easier, to stand when standing came with consequences, and to return home despite knowing the risks that awaited him.
His return was met with tragedy, and his assassination on August 21, 1983 became a turning point in Philippine history. What followed was a nation increasingly awakened to the realities of its time—a growing call for change, freedom, and democracy that would eventually contribute to the 1986 People Power Revolution.
This Ninoy Aquino Day, let us remember not only the man, but the courage he represented—and the responsibility that comes with the freedom he helped inspire.
May we never forget the lessons of our history.
