SUBJECT: Implementation of DepEd Order No. 6, s. 2026 โ Guidelines on the Use of Cellphones in the Classroom
PURPOSE
This memo outlines the schoolโs policy on cellphone use during class hours, in compliance with DepEd Order No. 6, s. 2026. The objective is to minimize distractions, prioritize learning engagement, and promote responsible digital citizenship among all students.
GENERAL POLICY
Cellphone use is PROHIBITED during regular class hours to maintain focus on academic activities. Students are expected to keep devices turned off or on silent mode and stored securely (e.g., in bags, designated storage areas) unless explicitly permitted for authorized use.
ALLOWED USE CASES
Cellphones may be used only under the following circumstances:
1. Educational Use: When directed by a teacher for activities such as research, collaborative projects, or as interactive learning tools.
2. Special Needs: For students with documented disabilities or medical conditions, as approved by the schoolโs Special Education (SPED) department or administration.
3. Emergencies: During disasters, safety concerns, or when coordinating with parents/guardians for urgent matters (to be facilitated by school staff where possible).
REQUIREMENTS FOR AUTHORIZED USE
- Teacher Supervision: All in-class use must be approved and supervised by the subject teacher.
- Authorized Tools: Only DepEd-approved apps, websites, and digital content may be accessed. A list of approved tools is available on the schoolโs official portal.
- Student Responsibility: Users must practice mindful usage and adhere to principles of digital citizenship, including respecting othersโ privacy and avoiding inappropriate content.
IMPLEMENTATION & DISCIPLINARY MEASURES
1. Clear School Policies: Additional details specific to our school are outlined in the Student Handbook and will be discussed during orientation sessions. 2. Parental Consent: Parents/ Guardians must acknowledge and sign a consent form confirming understanding of the rules and responsibilities related to cellphone use on campus. 3. Consequences for Misuse: Progressive disciplinary actions will be applied for violations, including verbal warnings, temporary confiscation of devices (to be released to parents/guardians), and referral to the Guidance Office for repeated offenses.
ENFORCEMENT
All teaching staff are tasked with enforcing these guidelines consistently. We encourage parents/guardians to support this policy by discussing responsible device use with their children at home.
