Because having an income of her own can give her more choices when life becomes uncertain.

Adelina shared that before joining BK Dumandan, she depended on her husband’s income, especially when work was not available every day. Today, she can say, “May sarili na akong income.” That change may sound simple, but for her, it means something much bigger.

When women have opportunities to earn, they gain more than income. They gain a stronger sense of independence, dignity, and possibility. 🧡

Trafficking prevention doesn't begin when someone is already in danger.
It begins much earlier.

It begins with a child who stays in school.
A family that has someone to turn to.
A household with access to the support and opportunities it needs.
A young person who doesn't have to choose between immediate survival and a safer future.

Traffickers can take advantage of circumstances where families are under pressure, offering money, work, or opportunities that may come at a much higher cost.

That's why prevention cannot be reduced to telling children to “be careful” or teaching families to recognize red flags.

Sometimes, prevention means strengthening the ground beneath them.

Keeping children in school.
Supporting families through difficult seasons.
Creating pathways toward stability and opportunity.
Building communities where people know where to turn before a crisis becomes exploitation.

These things may never make headlines.

But they can change the choices available to a family, and sometimes, having another safe choice is where prevention begins.

At Voice of the Free, we believe protecting a child means looking beyond the child alone. It means seeing the family, the circumstances, and the community around them, and working there, too.

Sometimes, it looks like an ordinary day: a warm meal, a class in the morning, counseling in the afternoon, and a quiet night without fear.

For a survivor rebuilding her life, “ordinary” can be the whole victory.

But the work of healing doesn't fit neatly into headlines, project timelines, reports, or funding cycles. At Voice of the Free, we believe our commitment to survivors shouldn't either.

We stay present beyond the milestones we can measure and the stories we can report, in season and out, whenever support, encouragement, or simply someone to listen is needed.

Because healing doesn't follow a deadline.

The measure of a just law is whether it reaches the powerful. RA 9851 was built to do exactly that. ✔️

Beyond punishing those who directly commit enslavement, sexual slavery, and trafficking, RA 9851 recognizes command responsibility, meaning superiors who order, allow, or fail to prevent these crimes can also be held liable. It closes the door on the excuse of "I was just following orders" and the impunity of those who hide behind rank.

Justice that only reaches the powerless isn't justice at all thus ✊🏻

Article 274 of the Revised Penal Code criminalizes debt bo***ge, forcing a person to work against their will as a way of "paying off" a debt. It's a trap that still ensnares people today: workers held by a debt that never seems to shrink, kasambahay kept without pay "until the utang is settled," or migrants told they must labor to repay recruitment "fees." The law is clear that a person's labor is not a lender's property. ✊🏻

Debt is a balance to be paid, never a person to be owned.

The law is only as powerful as the people who know it. 🧡

Under the Magna Carta for PWD (RA 7277, as amended by RA 9442 and RA 10754), persons with disability are protected from abuse, ridicule, and exploitation, guaranteed equal access to work, education, and public services, and entitled to benefits like the PWD discount and VAT exemption. These aren't favors, they're rights. ✊🏻
