There is beauty in the rough, and you donโ€™t have to be perfect or polished right now to be strong. Itโ€™s the rough times, the difficult lessons, that make you strong.

The color yellow became the symbol of the EDSA Revolution due to a heartfelt homecoming plan for Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. in 1983. His supporters chose yellow from the popular 1970s song "๐“๐ข๐ž ๐š ๐˜๐ž๐ฅ๐ฅ๐จ๐ฐ ๐‘๐ข๐›๐›๐จ๐ง ๐‘๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐Ž๐ฅ๐ž ๐Ž๐š๐ค ๐“๐ซ๐ž๐ž."
The song tells the story of a prisoner returning home and searching for a sign that he is still welcome. The welcome sign changed into a protest symbol which spread throughout the country after Ninoy was assassinated at the airport. The 1986 revolution brought yellow to represent more than one man which developed into a yellow sea that showed the hope and courage of millions of Filipinos who peacefully protested. They displayed yellow ribbons on trees and cars and phone poles to demonstrate their support for change.

The yellow ribbons have lost their brightness after forty years but our dedication to democracy remains stronger than ever. As the new generation of leaders, let us carry the courage of EDSA not just in our history books, but in our daily service to the student body and the nation.
