Happy Independence Day from PAWS 🇵🇭🐾

Today, we celebrate the freedom we have as a nation, but we also remember the responsibility that comes with it.

At PAWS, we are reminded everyday that compassion is not just a feeling. It is something we act on, whether by protecting animals who cannot speak for themselves, reporting cruelty, testifying against abuse, or choosing kindness even when it is not easy.

As we honor our country’s independence, may we continue building a Philippines where freedom is lived through compassion for all beings.

Hello po sa lahat ng followers, cat lovers, at fur parents👋 Si Kahel ay kasalukuyang nawawala, at kami ay bubuo ng search team para sa kanya.

Kailangan po namin ng volunteers na willing tumulong sa ground search, pag-post ng flyers, at pag-monitor ng leads.

𝗛𝗘 𝗙𝗜𝗟𝗠𝗘𝗗 𝗜𝗧. 𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗜𝗧. 𝗕𝗨𝗧 𝗛𝗘 𝗡𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗗 𝗜𝗧.

A wild monkey was mauled by dogs while a man recorded the incident and later shared it online. According to the caption, the monkey had allegedly taken bananas from trees on his property.

The question many are asking is simple:

Was this merely an unfortunate act of nature, or was the monkey being punished for taking food?

When a person has enough time to pull out a phone, record the suffering of an animal, and upload it as content, 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗻𝗼 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗲, 𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗴𝘀 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆, 𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸.

The monkey could not explain itself. It could not defend its actions. It could not tell anyone that it may have been hungry, displaced, or searching for food after losing access to its natural habitat.

Instead, its final moments became a spectacle.

The normalization of filming suffering without attempting to help is deeply troubling. 𝙎𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙢𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙖 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙙𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙝 𝙤𝙛 𝙖𝙣𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙡𝙨 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙤 𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩, 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩, 𝙤𝙧 𝙖 𝙨𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙘𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙤𝙣𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙖𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣.

Whether this was a deliberate retaliation or simply a tragedy allowed to unfold, one fact remains:

A living being suffered and died while someone stood by recording.
𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗯 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝘀.

For every beloved pet who crossed the rainbow bridge, thank you for the love, loyalty, and memories that will stay with us forever.

On World Pet Memorial Day, we pause to remember the companions who greeted us at the door, stayed by our side through life’s highs and lows, and loved us without conditions. Though their time with us was never long enough, the joy, comfort, and friendship they gave continue to live on in our hearts.
