| NYC - BAGUIO JOINS YOUTH READY 2025 BOOT CAMP TO EMPOWER TRANSFORMATIVE LEADERS FOR CLIMATE RESILIENCE
The National Youth Commission (NYC) โ Baguio Area Office actively took part in โYouth Ready 2025,โ a three-day youth boot camp held from December 13 to 15, 2025, at Pines View Hotel, Baguio City, aimed at shaping transformative youth leaders and strengthening climate and disaster resilience among young changemakers.
Organized by the Center for Transformative Leadership and Capacity Development Inc., the training gathered youth leaders, advocates, and organizations in a dynamic learning space focused on transformative leadership, civic engagement, sustainable development, and community resilience. The activity aligned with the Philippine Youth Development Plan (PYDP) Center of Participation on Environment, emphasizing the vital role of the youth in addressing climate-related challenges.
As part of the program, the NYC was invited to present its programs, projects, and activities, with particular focus on disaster risk reduction and management and climate change adaptation initiatives. The session highlighted how empowered and informed young people can take the lead in preparedness, mitigation, and adaptation efforts within their communities, especially in disaster-prone and climate-vulnerable areas.
The NYC Baguio Area Office, led by Dr. Sheridan Athena Gajete, delivered an in-depth presentation on NYCโs youth-centered policies and initiatives. She underscored how the Commission advances youth empowerment through policy advocacy, capacity development, and multi-sectoral partnerships, ensuring that youth perspectives are meaningfully integrated into national and local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) efforts. Her discussion reinforced the importance of youth participation in building resilient, responsive, and sustainable communities.
The engagement also fostered open dialogue between youth participants and the National Youth Commission, providing a venue for questions, shared experiences, and exploration of collaboration opportunities. Through this exchange, participants gained clearer insights on how local youth initiatives can align with national frameworks and contribute more effectively to disaster preparedness and climate action.
