SACCAMPI Wins Practicality Award in Project Dugong Pitching
Alabel, Sarangani Province — The SACCAMPI, youth leaders under the Sustainability Advocates for Climate Change Action (SACCA), made a remarkable mark in this year’s Project Dugong: Turning Practical Ideas into Impact after winning the Practicality Award for their innovative yet grounded environmental proposal.
Project Dugong brought together youth advocates from across the province to strengthen their knowledge and skills in ecological awareness, waste management, and sustainable project design. Participants underwent a series of online sessions and interactive workshops that covered the Laws of Ecology, Waste Assessment and Brand Audit (WABA), the Buayan–Malungon River Basin, the Sarangani Bay Protected Seascape, and the 5Rs of the Environment—Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Repurpose. These learnings were further reinforced during face-to-face engagements that encouraged collaboration and leadership.
Representing SACCA at the Project Pitching event held at Kasfala Hall, Capitol, Alabel, were Merrene Maningo as lead proponent, with teammates Shamara Obeñita Paulma ang Julienne Rose Pugate. Together, they presented their project proposal titled:
SACCAMP Initiative: Institutionalizing ANGIE UNO Youth Organization to Enhance Solid Waste Management Along Barangay Kawas Diversion Road.”
The proposal emphasized youth participation, organizational development, and community-led solutions to address the pressing problem of improper waste disposal along a key road in Barangay Kawas. Its strength lay in its realistic approach and clear implementation plan, which convinced the panel that it was both achievable and impactful at the grassroots level.
For this, the SACCAMPI were awarded the Practicality Award, a recognition that highlights project feasibility and applicability to real-life community challenges. The award also came with a ₱5,000 seed fund, which will be used by the team to kick-start their initiative this October through the ANGIE UNO Youth Organization.
The achievement was more than just a victory for the SACCAMPI; it also marked a step forward for youth-driven environmental action in Sarangani. From conceptual learning to actionable projects, the team’s journey in Project Dugong showed how young leaders can translate ideas into concrete solutions that benefit both their communities and the environment.
As the SACCAMPI prepare for the implementation stage, their story stands as an inspiration for other youth groups—proof that when determination meets practicality, meaningful change is possible.
