MAMA GEMMA: A LIFE OF LOVE AND MOTHERHOOD AT SOS ILOILO

Mama Gemma’s journey is one of service, sacrifice, and unconditional love. As the first retired SOS Mother of SOS Children's Village Iloilo, she dedicated 22 years to raising children with care, love, and compassion.

She was inspired by her own upbringing in a large, loving family and chose to become an SOS Mother to give children the same sense of belonging and care she once experienced. Through training and early experiences in the village, she quickly understood the emotional depth and responsibility of the role. 💚

59 YEARS OF IMPACT: FROM A SINGLE VILLAGE TO A NATIONWIDE MOVEMENT

For 59 years, SOS Children's Villages Pilipinas has remained steadfast in its mission to provide children with a family and a future. What began in 1967 with the opening of SOS Children's Village Lipa has now grown into a nationwide movement, impacting the lives of 1,573 children and young people, supporting 347 families, and empowering 32 communities across the Philippines.

At the heart of our work are two life-changing programs: Alternative Care, which provides children with a family-like environment where they are nurtured, protected, and helped to grow into confident individuals, and the Family Strengthening Program, which empowers vulnerable families to become self-reliant and prevent separation.

These programs are more than just support; they are pathways to lasting change. Through Alternative Care, we restore childhoods by offering children the love and security they deserve. Through Family Strengthening, we help families stay together, grow stronger, and break the cycle of poverty and vulnerability.

As we celebrate 59 years of impact, we reaffirm our commitment to ensuring every child has a future filled with hope, dignity, and opportunity. Together, we will continue to create families, strengthen communities, and build a brighter, more compassionate world for all. 💚
