To reinforce the Organic Agriculture Society of the Philippines (OASP), its interim officers convened on March 26, 2006, at Valle Verde Country Club, Pasig City. The meeting was hosted by its founding chairman, Mr. Arcenio “Toto” Barcelona, President and CEO of Harvest Corp. It was attended by Dr. Hermogenes M. Paguia (BPSU), Dr. Lita Colting, and Ms. Genie Soyon of Benguet State University.

The meeting was productively done as they laid down the operating plans and strategic framework for the association, including registration renewal, creation of a Board of Advisers, updating the OASP membership database, hosting a national congress, webinars on farm tourism (agritourism) and organic agriculture, exploring development prospects and opportunities for young agripreneurs, and forming working committees. The group left with a refreshed and refueled commitment to advance OASP’s advocacy for sustainable agriculture through organic technologies and innovations.

𝗞𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗮𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 (𝗞𝗦𝗨) 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗜𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗔𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗮𝗻

The OPA Bataan, MAO Hermosa, and PAA-Tamarind Chapter hosted Kansas State University smart irrigation and water-management expert Dr. Jonathan Aguilar. He was accompanied by Dr. Hermogenes M. Paguia to the project site in Hermosa, Bataan, where he met Engr. Johanna Dizon and Mr. Vincent Mangulabnan, department heads of OPA (PLGU Bataan) and MAO (LGU Hermosa), respectively. Dr. Aguilar provided the project team with valuable insights and recommendations to prolong and maintain the efficiency of drip irrigation systems and discussed potential future collaboration with Kansas State University on smart and precision irrigation for high-value crops. The discussion took place at the ACIAR-Bataan onion research and techno-demo project in Brgy. Balsik, Hermosa, Bataan.

We also visited the ATI Region 3 office in Dinalupihan, Bataan, where we had the opportunity to meet, Dr. Emmanuel L. Orogo, OIC-Director Regional Director and Assistant Director, Ms. Reynalyn Gulen. Our conversation focused on developing a training module on smart agriculture and precision farming, with an emphasis on water and irrigation technologies. Partnerships with KSU and ATI were discussed, with KSU experts expected to provide technical support and services. It was a fruitful cross-visit and meeting between Dr. Aguilar and the regional and provincial agricultural leaders.

The 1st BOD meeting for 2026 of PAA-Tamarind was held on January 9, 2026. The agenda items included the Work and Financial Plan chapters and the First International Mushroom Congress and National Forum on the Future of Mushrooms. The virtual meeting was well attended by the following officers: Dr. Arthur Dayrit (RTD-DA RFO3), President Renato Reyes (ASCOT), Dr. Edmar Franquerra (TAU), Engr. Johanna R. Dizon (OPA Bataan), Mr. Arnold Novicio (OPA Aurora), Dr. Cristina Sangumay (City Agriculture Office, City of San Fernando), Dr. Marivic Capalad (BASC), Ms. Jenele Mallari (PRMSU), Ms. Annalyn Esaga-Melgar (BPSU), and Dr. Hermogenes M. Paguia (BPSU).

President Renato Reyes presented the proposal for the Mushroom Congress and the proposed mechanisms for the event. As the first conference on mushrooms, the group is hopeful and optimistic about its success and about securing broader support from various sectors and agencies.

PAA National conducted an online assessment on January 5, 2026, to evaluate the accomplishments and challenges of the three PAA Regional Chapters (1, 2, and 3) in Luzon. The assessment was attended by the three Regional Chapter Presidents and PAA National Officers and Staff.
