Porgera Red Wara (River) Women's Association Incorporated (PRWWA INC.).
Mission Statement: Advancing Justice and Accountability for PNG Mining Legacies.

The Porgera Red Wara River Women's Association Incorporated (PRWWA INC.) acts as a steadfast, grassroots-driven force for justice, equality, and peace. We are deeply committed to addressing and rectifying the profound and gross human rights violations and environmental degradation stemming from the unaddressed legacy issues of the Porgera Gold Mine and Bougainville Copper and Gold Mine in Papua New Guinea. We hold both the PNG National Government and the corporate entities responsible for these mines directly accountable for their historical and ongoing impacts.
Inspired by the principle that human rights are a low-cost, high-impact investment for peace, security, sustainable development, and social cohesion, we are acutely aware that our vital advocacy for minority populations has been met with threats, assaults, and attempts to impede our work. Despite these dangers, we will:
* Demand Accountability and Redress from Government and Corporations, Despite Obstacles: We meticulously document and report on ongoing human rights violations and environmental impacts suffered by our communities, ensuring survivors' experiences are heard. Through persistent advocacy, even in the face of threats, we unequivocally press for accountability from the PNG National Government and the corporate entities that operated these mines. We demand comprehensive redress for historical and ongoing harm, contributing to long-term healing and justice.
* Mobilize and Empower Communities for Rights-Based Solutions, Fostering Resilience: We empower women and communities along the Red Wara River and those impacted by the Bougainville legacy to understand, claim, and defend their human rights. By fostering participation and building local capacity and resilience against intimidation, we mobilize collective action.

A Legacy On Injustice For Marginalized Communities" presentation.

On June 9th, 2025, Cressida Kuala, an Indigenous Ipili-Porgera woman from Papua New Guinea, will virtually present "Colonial Echoes and Extractive Scars ".
Her 10-minute address will highlight how colonial legacies and extractivism, exemplified by the Porgera and Panguna mines, have led to human rights abuses, environmental devastation, and increased climate change vulnerability for Indigenous communities in PNG and the Pacific. Ms. Kuala will argue that historical exploitation has undermined Indigenous resilience by severing connections to land, eroding traditional knowledge, and fragmenting social structures. She advocates for decolonized development, resource sovereignty, and culturally appropriate remedies to achieve true justice and healing. Key themes include the link between colonization and modern extractivism, human rights and environmental impacts of the mines, systemic failures to protect Indigenous rights, the direct connection between historical injustices and climate vulnerability, and a call for bottom-up, culturally appropriate solutions.
