We are incredibly honored to have been invited by the Conservation and Environment Protection Authority to attend the Melanesian Ocean Summit in Port Moresby.

The timing was very important as ENB Sea Keepers is currently developing our organisational structure and establishing our board members. This opportunity allowed our team to better understand the larger regional ocean commitments and how these can be translated into meaningful action within our LLGs, wards, and communities.

Representing and supporting the foundation of ENB Sea Keepers were Mr. Tiolam Wawaga, Raluana LLG President, Mr. Vonklauss Siwat, Acting Head of Department for Fisheries at the Papua New Guinea University of Natural Resources and Environment, Ms. Sharon Woruba, the Environment and Sustainability Manager of Coca-Cola Ltd, and our Grants Officer Mr. Maxwell Maina, the Business Development Specialist for SNS TECH.

We are grateful for their dedication, volunteer support, and shared vision as we continue building stronger community-driven marine conservation initiatives for future generations.

Exciting developments are still underway, and we look forward to sharing more updates soon. 🙏💪🔥

🌊 ENB Sea Keepers Mini Awareness Workshop – Day 2 🌊

Last night, we wrapped up Day 2 of our Mini Awareness Workshop with an engaging session led by Lexi Meltel from the University of Hawaii, Honolulu 🌺💻

The session focused on effective awareness delivery and creative engagement activities for our upcoming school awareness programs.

Participants were given topics and target audiences, then challenged to create interactive and meaningful ways to present their awareness messages. 🎭🎤🌏

We had some great discussions around awareness ethics, cultural sensitivity, gender perspectives, and respectful community engagement led by our young volunteers.

It was inspiring to see many of them step up confidently to lead activities and presentations. 💙

A special thank you to Priscilla Eka, our ICT Administrator, for assisting with the interactive screen setup and technical support and to Mr. Alphie Mandarip, our program manager, for ensuring everything ran smoothly behind the scenes. 🙌

This officially concludes our Awareness Preparation Workshop as we now begin preparing for our upcoming school and community awareness programs in the coming months. 🐠🌱

🧠💚 ENB Sea Keepers stands in support of mental health awareness and community unity across Papua New Guinea.

We are proud to support the UNRE CleanGen initiative in collaboration with Tokaut Blo Mi – PNG Mental Health Awareness as they lead the “Paint PNG With Purpose” campaign on May 15th under the theme:

“One PNG. One Voice. Painted with Purpose.”

Mental health matters in every community. As organizations working closely with people, youth, and local communities, we understand the importance of creating safe spaces where conversations about wellbeing, struggles, healing, and support can happen with respect and compassion.

We encourage everyone to wear a color that reflects your story, support, or message:
⚫ Black – Remembrance
⚪ Grey – Struggle
🟠 Orange – Support
🟢 Green – Healing

Every color represents a voice. Every conversation can make a difference.

If you are at UNRE Vudal Campus, visit the CleanGen awareness booth next to the minimart this friday to learn more, take part in the awareness activities, and stand together in solidarity for mental health awareness in PNG.

Let us continue building communities where people feel heard, supported, and valued. 💚

🌊✨ ENB Sea Keepers Mini Awareness Workshop – Day 1 ✨🌊

Yesterday, we kicked off our Mini Awareness Workshop preparing volunteers for upcoming school and community awareness programs.

Despite the rough network, we were grateful to have Lexi Meltel, A young pacific leader from Palau, a PhD student and a member of our program who is joining us online from the University of Hawaii in Honolulu 🌺 and our board member Sharon Woruba, an environmental chemist by profession and is currently serving as the Environment and Sustainability Manager joined from Port Moresby.

The workshop focused on awareness ethics, cultural sensitivity, communication skills, and how to create awareness that truly connects with people.

We reminded our volunteers that communities are giving us their valuable time, a fisherman could be out fishing, a mother could be gardening, so every 10 minutes of awareness must be meaningful, respectful, and impactful.

Our ongoing volunteers shared their experiences with new members, and we ended the evening with reflections and discussions on how awareness should not just inform people but inspire them to understand and join the mission. 💙

Tonight, Lexi Meltel will lead the next session focused on creative awareness delivery and team presentations, so stay tuned for updates from the East 🌏🐠

🌊Featuring Our 11th Graduating Volunteer – Isarah Kiah 🌊

Isarah Kiah, who hails from Mussau, Kavieng District, New Ireland Province graduates with Distinction in Bachelor of Sustainable International Tourism (BSIT).

Often mistaken for being from Milne Bay because of her small built and island features. Her journey reflects the strength, humility, and determination of young island women passionate about creating change within their communities.

Isarah joined ENB Sea Keepers in 2024 after developing a deeper appreciation for the ocean and recognising the gradual loss of traditional marine conservation practices within her community.

Through volunteering, she became actively involved in awareness activities, marine workshops, and community engagement programs that strengthened her passion for conservation and sustainable community development.

Through ENB Sea Keepers’ partnership with the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) in Kavieng and PNG UNRE's partnership program in Industrial Training, Isarah was able to secure an internship immediately after completing her final year studies last year and was able to continue supporting conservation initiatives as an intern, gaining further field exposure and professional experience.

During her internship, she assisted with CPUE data collection and law enforcement training activities in Lovongai and Mussau, gaining valuable hands-on experience within the marine conservation sector.

Her final words of encouragement “Your roots matter, use your growth and skills to make an impact in your community.”

Through her journey with ENB Sea Keepers, Isarah gained confidence, leadership skills, and meaningful experience working alongside communities, schools, women, and fellow conservation advocates.

As she takes a short breather before continuing her next chapter, we proudly acknowledge her dedication, growth, and contributions to East New Britain communities. 🔥🙏🥳❤️

🐟 When the reef is given time, it gives back, and Ialakua Village Marine Customary Closure is living proof. 🔥

Three years into our Ialakua Marine Customary Closure, and this is what we’re seeing.

From degraded dead reef to life of abundance 🐟😍

Schools of fish moving freely, undisturbed, and in numbers we haven’t seen in a long time.

Honestly, they don’t even seem to mind the cameras all up in their space 😄

That’s when you know something is changing.
No fear.
No pressure.

Just life returning to where it belongs. 🪸🥳

This is what happens when a community decides to step back, protect, and allow the ocean to breathe again.

It’s not magic. It’s management, patience, and respect.

And while we’re still facing challenges like coral bleaching, moments like this remind us why we keep going.

Because out here, the reef is alive, and it’s responding. 😍🥹

🌊 Featuring Our 10th Graduate Volunteer – Stella Marie Yinil 🥳

Stella Marie Yinil, from Sandaun (Aitape-Lumi) with roots across New Ireland, ARoB, and ENB, a true island girl shaped by her love for nature and the sea.

After losing her mother in Year 12, Stella faced a difficult turning point. With the support of family, she found strength and purpose, choosing to pursue renewable energy and environmental engineering at Papua New Guinea University of Natural Resources and Environment.

Stella graduated this month with a Bachelor in Renewable Energy and Environmental Engineering with Distinction and as the Top Student in her Special Projects. 💪

Driven to help coastal communities like her own, Stella joined as a volunteer, delivering marine conservation awareness to island communities in East New Britain.

Through her work, Stella built confidence, leadership, and teamwork skills, learning to adapt and think on her feet. One challenge she overcame was becoming more creative and quick-thinking during community engagements.

Some moments she will never forget was her first-ever interview with ENB Sea Keepers, nervous and unsure, yet she pushed through and became part of the family. Another moment was seeing the smiles of children during awareness sessions, knowing she made a difference.

Stella hopes to become an environmentalist and climate resilience advocate, working to support island communities facing climate change.

Her final message to everyone out there still finding their way;

“Know your purpose and keep your priorities right. You’ll stay on track.
And when things get tough, remind yourself: you are strong, brave, beautiful, and a fighter.”

Congratulations! Stella, on your excellent achievements and thank you for your service to our East New Britain communities 💪🙏🔥♥️

🌊 Featuring our 9th Graduating Volunteer – Zunice Malio 🥳

Meet Zunice Malio, from Middle Sepik, Angoram District, an island spirit from the Sepik, carrying quiet strength and a powerful purpose.

A proud graduate with merit in Bachelor of Sustainable International Tourism from PNG University of Natural Resources and Environment.

Her journey began long before university, back in Grade 4, when she first understood the impacts of deforestation, logging, and urbanization. That awareness grew into a lifelong passion for protecting the environment.

Tourism wasn’t the expected path, but with encouragement from her sister, she took a leap and found her calling. By her second year, she saw how sustainable tourism can drive real change.

In 2024–2025, she joined ENB Sea Keepers as a student volunteer, delivering awareness in schools, engaging communities, and supporting coral restoration.

From a shy introvert to a confident young leader, Zunice found her voice.

One moment that stayed with her deeply was during the coral restoration training at Ialakua Village. The entire communities showed up, young and old, men and women alike. It challenged what she had known growing up, where mostly youth participated in such activities.

"We don’t need status, age, or titles to protect our future.Whether young or old, we all have a role to play." she adds.

Zunice now aspires to bridge people, culture, and nature, using tourism as a pathway to protect the environment while uplifting communities.

She leaves us with a powerful reminder:

The natural environment doesn’t ask for our attention, yet it captivates us.

"We are not above it; we are part of it.
Protecting it means protecting our home, our food, and ultimately, our health."

Congratulations! Zunice on your achievements and thank you for your service to East New Britain communities 🙏 ♥️

🌊Featuring Our 8th Graduating Volunteer – Leroyd Rima🥳

Leroyd Rima is from Milne Bay, Alotau District, Maramatana LLG, raised by the Ocean between East and West Tawala.

He is also a recent graduate with a Bachelor in Sustainable Tropical Forestry with (Distinction) from the Papua New Guinea University of Natural Resources and Environment.

And here’s the funny part, he doesn’t even like sharks 😄. But that hasn’t stopped him from protecting their home because for Leroyd, the ocean isn’t just water. It’s life, food, and survival for his community.

Growing up as a coastal kid, the sea was his playground and pantry. That strong connection is what pushed him to join ENB Sea Keepers, basically turning his love for the ocean into action (sharks or no sharks 🦈).

As a volunteer, Leroyd jumped into everything, including our environmental education program for schools. At first, he was the quiet one, always a bit shy to speak up.

But over time, with the team’s energy and support, he found his voice, and now he’s out there confidently talking about conservation like a pro.

One of his best memories was the trip to the Duke of York Islands. Not because it was his first visit, but because of that proud feeling he got after teaching young kids and seeing them understand why protecting the ocean matters. Coming from one island kid to another island kid. That moment stuck.

Now, he’s aiming to keep doing what he loves, protecting nature, teaching others, and leaving a positive mark wherever he goes.

His final message to everyone out there who wants to volunteer for a good cause:

“It’s never too late to make a difference. Use your voice. You might be surprised how far it can go.”

Congratulations! Leroyd on your achievement and thankyou for your service to East New Britain communities 🙏♥️

🌱 Featuring Our 7th Graduating Volunteer – Samuel Martin 🥳

Samuel Martin is from the border of Rai Coast and Kabwum in Madang–Morobe, raised in the YUS Conservation Area, surrounded by unique wildlife like the Matschie's tree kangaroo and the eastern long-beaked echidna

Growing up in a remote, subsistence family, getting an education was not easy. His family supported him through small efforts like selling to***co in Lae and conservation coffee projects with the Tree Kangaroo Conservation Program.

Step by step, this journey led him to the Papua New Guinea University of Natural Resources and Environment, where he graduated this year with a Bachelor’s degree in crop science with (distinction).

Samuel faced challenges along the way, especially with confidence and public speaking, but he kept pushing himself to grow.

Although he once dreamed of becoming a neurosurgeon, he found his purpose back home, working with communities and protecting the environment.

Through his experience with the Tree Kangaroo Conservation Program and ENB Sea Keepers, he developed into a young leader.

Today, we are pleased to announce he continues this journey now as an intern with the YUS tree kangaroo conservation program in Morobe Province, supporting communities to protect their environment and build sustainable livelihoods.

My final message to young people still finding their way;

“Your beginnings don’t define your limits. Be brave, keep growing, and take responsibility for your home.”

Congratulations! Samuel, on your achievements and stepping into your new role. Thank you for your service to East New Britain communities.♥️🙏
