PNG CORE Congratulates Newmont Lihir on Corporate Tax Contribution and Sustainable Future Commitment

Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea — PNG CORE congratulates Newmont Lihir on its significant corporate tax contribution of approximately K1.485 billion to date in 2026, marking
an important milestone.

Earlier this year Newmont Lihir paid K852 million in corporate tax and their second instalment of K633 million at end Q2 2026 marks their position as the largest taxpayer in the mining sector to date.

“This illustrates the important role responsible mining companies play in supporting public revenue, employment, provincial development and opportunities for communities,” said PNG CORE Executive Director, Richard Kassman, OBE.

PNG CORE also acknowledges Newmont Lihir and its commitment to creating long-term value, supporting livelihoods and many initiatives that support a sustainable future for Papua
New Guinea.

These efforts are especially important for host communities, the New Ireland Provincial government and for the national economy more broadly.

PNG CORE congratulates and commends Newmont Lihir and encourages ongoing collaboration between the Government and the industry that advances transparent, sustainable and community-focused development across the mining sector.

Congratulations to the recipients of the 2026 Industry Recognition Awards!

PNG Mining and Petroleum Hospitality Services Ltd received the Outstanding Landowner Company Shared Value Performance Award in recognition of their commitment to delivering shared value for landowner communities. It creates mutual benefit for companies, communities and stakeholders.

Kainantu Support Services Ltd earned two awards, winning both the Outstanding Local Workforce Training and Development Champion Award and the Outstanding Women’s Contribution in the Resources Industry Award. During the PNG Resources Golden Exhibition, New Porgera Limited (NPL) proudly stepped up to support local education by gifting nine schools from NCD a stationery cheque worth K1,000 each — bringing the total donation to K9,000.



NPL Country Manager, Karo Maha emphasized that, this contribution is more than just financial aid. It is a strategic investment in the foundational tools students need to thrive. By equipping these schools, NPL aims to remove everyday hurdles to learning and inspire academic growth.
