: On 11โ12 March, in commemoration of International Womenโs Day under the theme โ๐๐๐ซ๐ ๐ฉ๐ค ๐๐๐๐ฃ,โ the Hauskuk Initiative in collaboration with the Griffith University, ARC Centre of Excellence for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (CEVAW), brought together women and young women leaders from HKI programs, government representatives, development practitioners, CSOs, FBO's, frontline responders, service providers, and experts working to address violence against women in Madang Province, to a Roundtable "Tok Stori" where we all collectively focused on; โ๐๐

Across sectors and lived experiences, one message was clear:

As extreme weather events intensify, so too do the risks and realities of violence faced by women, young women and girls; during displacement, in overcrowded shelters, and within communities under stress.
Through this convening, we collectively examined:
โข How climate-related disasters are reshaping patterns of violence
โข How communities are preparing and where gaps remain
โข The availability and accessibility of services, especially for those most at risk
The discussions were honest and grounded in reality.
We heard clearly that:
โข Referral pathways remain fragmented and inconsistent
โข Critical services for survivors are still missing or inaccessible
โข Marginalised groups, including young women, women with disabilities, and elderly women, face the greatest barriers
But we also saw something equally important:
This work is not about isolated responses, it is about strengthening systems together. It is about ensuring that as we respond to climate change, we do not overlook the safety, dignity, and leadership of women and young women.
Because when we give space for womenโs voices, knowledge, and leadership-we gain stronger, more resilient, and more just communities.
