Publicly asking for financial assistance is slowly becoming a trend among some students in Papua New Guinea. So far, I have seen, two students from UPNG, one from UNITEC, and one from Sonoma College have posted on social media to seek financial assistance from general public.

Let me speak honestly.

Being born into a poor family, raised by a single parent, or even being an orphan is not an excuse to seek financial assistance on social media for help. Yes, life is hard. Yes, situations are different. But education requires responsibility.

If you truly value your education and your future, you will find a way to raise at least part of your school fees.
As students, we have enough time during semester breaks. Holiday periods are not only our resting time, moving around, and showing off. They are opportunities to work, save money, and prepare for the next semester.
If you come from a poor background, accept it. Understand it. Work with it.

There is no shame in being born poor. The real shame is refusing to work hard and later blaming relatives, parents, communities, or tribes when registration time comes.

You can:
☆Sell at the market
☆Do street sales
☆Work as a security guard
☆Take any small honest job
☆Babysit for relatives
☆Work as a cleaner

No job is too small when your goal is big. What matters is effort.

Let me share my story.

I was born into a poor family, and I understood my situation very well. After finishing my first year at Papua New Guinea University of Natural Resources and Environment in 2022, I went straight to Kokopo Main Market. I have a ticket to go for a holiday at my home province but i decided to stay back at Kokopo and make a sales. I set up a small stall and sold phones, batteries, chargers, headsets, and other small items as you can see on my picture below for two full months (December and January). People in East New Britain and some of my colleagues can confirm this. Within those two months, I raised enough money. During my second-year registration, I paid K4,568 from my own savings and registered as a day student. Throughout my university years, I never asked anyone, not even my poor parents for financial support.

From my second year until my final year, I supported many students from different parts of Papua New Guinea with their education needs.

In 2023, I even helped a student from Southern Highlands with K2,986 for his tuition fees.

During every semester break, I continued selling at Kokopo Market. I also sold cash to students and some staff on campus to make sure I had enough money for my school needs.
Last year, I completed my studies. I am now waiting for my graduation in April 2026 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Environment and Climate Change and Health Development.

Why?
Because I value my education more than anything.
☆Success does not come from begging.
☆Success comes from sacrifice.
☆Success comes from discipline.
☆Success comes from using your time wisely.

To every student reading this,
☆Stop complaining.
☆Stop blaming others.
☆Start working.
☆Start sacrificing.
☆Start building your future today.

Your background does not decide your future. Your effort does.

🔥 “They burned my house… but not my calling! For a long time, I’ve been serving my people at Bunu Aid Post — and our mission continues!” 🔥

💙 “10 years, Many patients, one community — this is our story of faith, service, and resilience.” 💙

---

🔥 Faith and Service Journey 🔥

10 Years of Charity Service (2016–2026)

For many years, I have walked with my people in sickness, struggle, and hope. 🌿

After graduating from Gaubin Training School under an Australia Awards ( DFAT) scholarship recipient. The knowledge and training I gained continue to serve my rural community today., I returned home like many job seekers in PNG with high expectations, but there was no job.

Instead of sitting idle, I chose to serve. ✨

I farmed cocoa, buai, and other crops while volunteering to care for the sick in my village.
I walked long distances to patients’ homes, treated them, and returned late at night exhausted — but fulfilled. 🏡💉

For all this time, I have served voluntarily with a humble heart. ❤️

---

I also worked with PNG IMR Madang as a clinician with the epidemiology team.

After saving some money, I approached the District Health Manager about building an aid post because our population travels far to reach Mugil Health Center.

I was told to look for funding elsewhere.

I prayed for wisdom 🙏 and decided to start with what I had — K500 from my tithe and my own fortnight pay.

---

I called the community together.

They agreed and supported the vision. 🌟

We fundraised by collecting small contributions, selling sausages, and using garden food and timber.

I treated patients from my home for a small fee to help push the work forward.

I worked 3–4 jobs daily — research work, farming, livestock, and patient care.
Many nights I slept at 1am and woke at 5am. ⏰💪

---

For two years, we built the aid post through community effort.

Youths, elders, and volunteers all worked without pay. 💪
Even the machinery we used was given free of charge.

I made sure there was always food for the team. 🍲

We built the aid post, VIP toilet, incinerator, and staff house through unity, sacrifice, and faith. ✨

---

The aid post was officially opened and registered by Madang Provincial Health Authority. ✅

Today it serves a population of 4,000+ people, including Bunu village and surrounding communities — three villages, three schools, and a 24-hour market.

We treat malaria, pneumonia, skin diseases, and refer TB and complicated cases to Mugil Health Center.

We also mentor youths — two have graduated as nurses, and others are being supported to pursue nursing or health-related studies. 🌱💙

---

Then came July 2025.

Gunfire filled our community. 🔫
Smoke rose into the sky. 🌫️

I shut the aid post door and evacuated patients.

We ran into the bush for safety. 🌳
My sister carried a gunshot patient to safety.

My staff house was burned down. 🔥
I lost all my property.
Half of the community was destroyed.
Livestock were killed and stolen.

I cried because I am innocent. 😢
I gave my life to serve freely, yet I faced such pain.

But they burned my house — not my calling. 💪

---

Even after losing everything, I continued voluntary service.

We carry water from a creek to treat patients at the aid post, serving our people daily — because service is a calling, not a job. ❤️

Farming cocoa and livestock will help me rebuild again. 🌱

---

I am grateful to all health personnel in PNG who save countless lives. 🙏

We all contribute to excellence in mankind.

To the people of Bunu village and surrounding communities —
this aid post exists because of our collective effort. 🌿

Nurses by choice and nurses by chance are two different things. 💙

---

As Dr Ben Carson said:

> “Success is never achieved alone.”

Ten years later, I remain committed.

My journey is faith. ✨
My journey is service. ❤️
My journey continues. 💪

---

Dr. Ben Carson (Retired world renowned neurosurgeon) wrote this beautiful piece.

Read and be blessed.

Sometimes you are unsatisfied with your life, while many people in this world are dreaming of living your life.
A child on a farm sees a plane fly overhead and dreams of flying. But, a pilot on the plane sees the farmhouse and dreams of returning home. That's life!! Enjoy yours.
If wealth is the secret to happiness, then the rich should be dancing on the streets. But only poor kids do that.
If power ensures security, then officials should walk unguarded. But those who live simply, sleep soundly.
If beauty and fame bring ideal relationships, then celebrities should have the best marriages. But those who live simply, walk humbly and love genuinely!
All good will come back to you!

Man asks, “Where was God when Myles Munroe, wife and his associates were killed in a crash? He answers, "The same place I
sat when John the Baptist my servant was beheaded. When Stephen my servant was stoned to death. When Paul my servant was murdered in Rome. The same place I sat when my only Son was brutally crucified, wounded, bruised and killed.

I have not moved from my position."
I am the same. It is not the means of exit from earth that matters but the
destination. Live simply.

It's all about God!!

PS: I add, God who knows the future knows the best for us. We must not question God.

God is the creator of man, He is the Creator of the Universe.

I was about to Go to work this Morning and on My Way to The Bustop I Met this young boy Selling Aupa early in the Morning while other kids were walking to school, enjoying their first day. After Seeing his Fellow students heading school, this Small fella's reaction changed, He looked straight down and I saw him with Tears that also made me she'd my tears.

Without knowing what forced this kid to sell Aupa very early in the morning. I went close to the Kid and asked him " Sonboss You Salim Aupa ah" He said yes and I told him " Ba me buyim ogeda Aupa blo You, Totalim na Salim Price Kam" With Smile on his face em Kirap tok " Olgeta Ba K12-00).

I only had a K20 in my pocket for my lunch and busfare but I bought those Aupa with K12:00 just to see him smile.

The kid Said to me " You firstpla customer blo me lo buyim ol Kumu ya, Thank you. Nau ba me go lo School"

Upon hearing that I asked him politely " Sonboss You sa school ah, na why na you no Go Lo School"

This was the Kids reply " Me sa Wokim Grade 5 but blo go lo Grade 6 this year em ol laikm newpla uniform.. Me nog*t so me Salim Aupa lo buyim Newpla uniform 😥😥💔.

My heart Sinked, I just felt for the boy and I told him Sonboss noken give up, you are on the right track. I asked him " uniform amas and he said" Me g*t Trasis but only shirt costim K15"

Me just gave my last K20 with no Hesitation. I told him "Sonboss go buyim uniform na go school tomorrow"

He gave me a promising smile and hugged me and said to Me " Thank you Bata, me ting ba Salim Kumu this week na next week me ba school but Thank you tomorrow ba me go school.

Worst I came late for work because of busfare 😁. But I'm happy I helped someone.

Remember, not everyone have everything in life, Thank God and share whatever little God blesses you.
