This September, our floating bookfair will arrive at Tanjung Priok Port in Jakarta, bringing people together through books, stories, connection and hope.

We’re so excited to begin this new journey in Indonesia and to meet the people of Jakarta! ❤️

What a journey these past months have been.

From Port Moresby to Rabaul, Kavieng, Madang and Lae, we have been so incredibly blessed to meet you, serve you, laugh with you, learn from you and share life with you.

Thousands of visitors, countless conversations, new friendships, school visits, events, donations, books, smiles and memories that we will carry with us long after leaving these shores.

Doulos Hope may have sailed away from PNG, but a part of our hearts will always remain here.

Thank you to everyone who welcomed us, supported us, partnered with us, visited the ship and made these months so special.

THOUSANDS of books, educational resources, and community programmes are now available in Lae, as the world’s largest floating book fair, the Doulos Hope, opened its doors to the public yesterday.

After visiting Port Moresby, Rabaul, Kavieng and Madang, the vessel is making its final stop, marking the organisation’s return to the country for the first time since its sister ship, the MV Doulos, visited in 2008.

I was on the first Doulos when it first came to Lae in 2001 and then it re-visited Lae for the second and the last time 18 years ago when I was 13 years old before it went back and turned into a floating hotel. Now look who's here the second Doulos aka Doulos Hope it was welcomed by the Munum singsing group when it came in.🥰

The whole ship — from common areas to shared toilets, they keep it all clean.

❓ What does a typical day looklike for them?
Vacuuming, cleaning and doing laundry — sheets, towels and uniforms included!

❓ How many hours a day does the housekeeping team work?
8 hours a day in the morning — hard work behind the scenes! 💪

Behind every voyage of Doulos Hope, there is a team of dedicated crewmembers — deck officers, engineers and seafarers — working around the clock to keep us moving safely from port to port. Without them, our goal to share knowledge, help and hope would not be possible.

We made history in Rabaul! 🎉

On 13 June 2026, Doulos Hope welcomed 6,055 visitors

in a single day — a new record for the vessel! And it would not have been possible
without our port volunteers who gave their time to make it happen. Thank
you, Rabaul!
