Representing the six Babuaf villages of Ziriruk, Madzim, Wongkins, Wori, Papas, and Kapumung, Lerom ILG is proud to be recognized in Tier 1. As a Mine Impact Area (MIA) community, we are at the forefront of ensuring our people directly benefit from the Wafi Golpu project.

As we prepare for the future, Lerom ILG is actively building up its capability to ensure our Landowner Company (LanCo) meets the expectations set by WGJV. Governor Luther Wenge needs to address two crucial questions about the Infrastructure Development Grant (IDG):

1️⃣ Has the Morobe Provincial Government (MPG) set guidelines for IDG disbursement?

2️⃣ Do the Babuaf, Yanta, and Hengambu Landowner Associations have plans to use the IDG for infrastructure development in the Wafi-Golpu SML 10 area?

If these questions remain unanswered, it's vital for responsible parties to act swiftly to ensure the IDG benefits the Wafi-Golpu landowners. If answers are available, transparency and accountability are key to establishing real infrastructure before the mining project begins.

Late Ezra Kwako, the former Paramount Chief of the Babuaf tribe, was a steadfast protector of the Lerom clan and all landowners involved in the Wafi-Golpu Mining Project. He stood firm against political tactics that bypassed genuine consultation with landowners, declaring, “Political interference to propagate better processes is not to be entertained.”

Chief Kwako called for transparency and accountability, urging that the Babuaf Landowners Association always act in the true interests of the landowners. “People have trust in the executives,” he reminded us, emphasizing leadership that genuinely represents the community.

As mediation efforts continue, Chief Kwako’s vision remains clear: “We all should work together... for the benefit of the people of Morobe and not individuals.” His unwavering commitment ensures that the voices of Morobe’s people are heard, and their rights respected.
