UNDP helps strengthen forest monitoring across Papua New Guinea! 🌳🇵🇬
This month, UNDP, Mammoth Geospatial, and DroneTree Mapping delivered a series of workshops in Kimbe, Kokopo, and Port Moresby to support the rollout of an integrated forest monitoring system recently launched by the Conservation and Environment Protection Authority (CEPA).
The new system is designed to strengthen environmental monitoring and decision-making across Papua New Guinea by enabling more timely detection, verification, and reporting of forest clearing activities. 🪵🪓
The platform combines:
🛰️ Satellite-based forest monitoring
🚨 Forest disturbance alerts from Global Forest Watch
☁️ A cloud-based case management system for tracking alerts and reports
During the workshops, participants learned how to manage the system, develop forest monitoring workflows, and integrate geospatial data for analysis and reporting. They also gained hands-on experience in collecting and managing field data using drones. 🚁
The training was delivered under the 'Global Environment Facility-7 Food Systems, Land Use and Restoration (FOLUR) Project', which is jointly implemented by UNDP and CEPA
